In the game against Fulham, Benitez used Bertrand out wide but hasn't done it again since, why? because he saw for himself it didn't work. Mourinho is just as 'negative' as Rafa. It's funny he was the one that coined the whole "Parking the bus" phrase since he has used that same method a lot over the past few years at Madrid and Inter. And i don't see how mind games can be used as a way to judge who's a better coach

What do you need to do to prove you're a better coach than someone, other than beating them in the biggest games? A better team will always prevail over the course of a season.

Nothing compared to Mourinho? the same person who's solely responsible for Mourinho not winning the CL while he was here? despite Jose having the far better team. The Real Madrid part - they performed last season so why aren't they now? there's a lot of problems in the dressing room, and Mourinho only adds to it with his blaming and benching of players. I wouldn't say he's a bad coach or anything like that, but he doesn't look so special at Madrid.

Hopefully he gets more chances to come on in games we're winning, and continue to impress.

Inevitable, i remember when people were bumping the Borini thread Ease? i made a point months ago (which Konohas repeated recently) about him being overrated, and sometimes you only strengthen this. He's been decent for Chelsea in general, nothing more. Saying he can score 20 a season with "ease" is funny, not a lot of players in the PL actually get to that number. I expect this, a lot of people do this to endear themselves to their new fans.

The Torres miss ( i only saw it once because i don't like to relive bad moments) he went for power instead of placement immediately he saw the ball, but it just happened to go right to the keeper who was having one of those games - where he didn't look like he would be beaten. The Guerrero goal, yeah 3 players on the line, but the most important thing is the ball deflecting to his path very, very fortunately. Whatever though you can stick with your opinion of it being all Rafa's fault, but i personally do not buy it. Most common thing in football. It's always the manager's fault.

You need luck every game, but more so in a big game, a final. Gary Cahill had a superb effort stopped on line, Torres wide open smashes the ball right at the keeper = bad luck. Corinthians shot deflects off Cahill and right to a wide open Guerrero - luck.

Fair enough then if he continues like this, he will surely become a wanted man.

Changing the pivot did not fuck us up, how many chances did Corinthians have? It was a tight game like you would expect in a final, but we failed to take our chances and they took their 1 good chance. I don't blame Benitez for anything actually, and neither do i blame the players - it's not as if they did not want to win, things just did not go our way, tough luck, move on.

It's not about how he does this season though for me, i just look at all the clubs he's managed and meh. Plus the fact that he's a former Atleti player, a lot easier to get the players and fans on his side from the first day. Just like it was for RDM. His Atletico team are very solid though and they create enough chances.

There's also the fact that Corinthians were fresher and more prepared than us, but who cares about silly things like that? I don't see any reason to put so much blame on one person - he played our best team and they just didn't do much. And it's actually the other way around, when we win its the players and when we don't it's all Rafa, and his defensive football.

I wouldn't take him over Benitez. Not to discredit what's he has done for Atleti though, because it's been very good.

Mata against Arsenal.

Amazing, I never expected this from "defensive" Rafa
-
So he still doesn't get to play striker then? then i don't get the point of going to Liverpool.
-
I'd buy this if he had managed to do it over the course of a whole season. Great players don't show up for only 6 months - well unless you're David Silva lol. He only played 12? games at Bolton and at Chelsea he faded from January to May, only scoring i believe 1 goal during that period. One thing i've been thinking though is where he will play at Liverpool. They bought Borini last summer who is more of a typical striker than Sturridge imo, and played him on the left wing.
-
Lol, if things go right, could be RG3 v Wilson in playoffs
-
People who say he can be great or world class? really? on what evidence? To me he's a winger, who wants to be a striker so badly, like Walcott. But on the few occasions both have been played there, they haven't exactly ripped shit up. It will be interesting to see how he does at Liverpool - i'm sure he will score some goals, but definitely not anywhere near enough from a "great" "world class" player.
-
He will need several top performances for this to happen, won't just be a given immediately he puts on the shirt.
-
Most of these are not important mate. And as for assists lol, Falcao rarely even passes in the box. Torres is the same, except for last season when he had double digits assists. Also 4: Mental impact? people will actually love to face him and "welcome" him to the league. And every decent striker can create space, Torres does this.
-
What is this upside that is greater than goals? i don't know, so i can't answer the question. He brings goals, and there's nothing wrong with that - as that is what you expect when you buy a striker
-
I can't write names like i'm an expert, but that's why we have scouts. I mentioned Suarez in an earlier post, a player we missed out on because we were going after the big name, expensive player - Mario Gomez and Torres. A player like Soldado has scored 20 or more in his past 3 seasons, i'm sure he will have the same success when he eventually leaves Valencia. Lewandowski scored 30 last season, 6 less than Falcao, another player i'm sure will do well wherever he ends up. Higuain like i mentioned yesterday is a good finisher and scores a lot for a player who's rotated often. That's just 3 names from my limited knowledge of other leagues. (Oh yeah and there's Huntelaar and Llorente who scored close to 30 last season, but they've already been many discussions about them)
-
38m is too much for a striker from Marseille imo, but anyway that's not the main point here. I would say we're in need of a striker who can add 20-25 goals to what we already get from the rest of the squad. Falcao can do this, but so can many other strikers. They are some good strikers out there, but we won't look at them because they're not big names. Just like we did not look at Falcao when his release clause was much lower at Porto (he then signed a new deal and moved to Atletico 2 weeks later)
-
His wages do not reflect his importance to the team, so i expect that to be increased.
-
If that old Drogba was playing for Marseille during this period i think he will cost around 25-30m, not 50m. 50m is just way over the top, not many players have cost that or more, ever. Liverpool got Suarez for around 25m or whatever, and that's a very good deal. Before we got Torres for 50m, i don't remember that many players linked with moves for that fee, seems we started the trend
