Mixing zonal with man-to-man is for me the solution. For example, have 3-4 players standing on 4-5 yards from the near, far post and in the middle of the 6 yard area. Other players (even the smaller ones) should man mark opponents and try to make it more difficult for them to move towards the ball and leap. The biggest problem with strictly zonal marking is the fact defenders are jumping from a standing position whilst an attacking player is free to have a little run towards the ball and leap. Anyone who played at least semi-serious football knows how big of an advantage in aerial duels this is.

I hope the 3 at the back doesn't become permanent because I really don't like it. Its a good option to have as an alternative but not as our main system. Anyways a very important away win. You could see how much it means to the lads.

Defending set-pieces must improve. It takes time to build a system, it takes time for players to understand how to defend and press as a unit, that I understand but defending set-pieces is one of the basic things in footba. We can't afford to have that as our weakness being already sometimes open and shaky in open play. I don't know who is insisting on zonal marking, whether its Frank, Jody or someone else but this is quite clearly not working. We've conceded twice from corner-kicks in the league, Norwich hit the post, against Liverpool in the Super Cup we also had major issues. They need to reshape it, maybe mix zonal with man-marking, because its leading to too many easy headers. Anyways we can't keep defending set-pieces like this, its going to cost us alot.

No, right now its about instilling the right mentality and mindset. These young lads need to understand how to become winners week in week out. Against sides like Sheffield United especially at home, Chelsea should always be going for the 3rd goal, or 4th, 5th... Yes Klopp and Guardiola do rarely make those sorts of subs but the goal is always to score as many as you can, kill the game and not to give opponents a chance to have a go at you and invite the pressure on. Re Norwich, sorry couldn't watch the second half Zouma and Azpi are very poor at the minute, I don"t know how Rüdiger and James will look after they come back but at least we've got those options. Also Jorginho is still not good enough defensively. We might need a proper holding midfielder after the ban expires.
