The world X1 is voted by professional footballers, all 55,000 of them. They obviously live in another world to us. Also, Ashley Cole said in September "Marcelo best left back in the world, last 2 seasons"

SB can't be extended because the laws don't allow it. Because of these laws, we've actually had to reduce capacity and knocking down the hotel won't get around these laws. Earls Court would have been ideal and Nine Elms ok too (which is the land east of Battersea power station that is full of warehouses). White City is a bit too far north but close enough and Oak Common is definitely too far.

ManU drop 8 points by drawing the Everton, Newcastle, Arsenal and Chelsea games. Arsenal drop 8 points by losing against Liverpool, Tottenham and drawing with ManU. We drop 2 points at ManU. We all end up with the same number of points at the end of the season and it is decided by goal difference.

Nice story about his early career

Terry, Lamps and Cole should retire from England
Cloudy replied to Tomo's topic in Matthew Harding Stand
Lampard should retire immediately given his permanent injury. Terry and Cole should do it after the 2012 Euros. It's a shame Terry will never be given the armband even though the newspapers have retracted and apologized for the stories about him and Bridge's ex. -
You'll need an Oyster card for both payg or travelcard. If you travel on the tube everyday, get a travelcard.

St Johns Wood is a really nice area.

Daily Mail article about CA thinking of using him as a DM. No quotes in the article but I think he could do well in that role.
-
There are similar articles in most papers today although each paper names different players. I think this is an attempt to rile up the players ahead of the game on Sunday.

Over the last few years, Arsenal and us have had nearly the same revenue but they have spent 150m repaying the loan on their new stadium and they still have a 150m to go. We don't have a stadium to pay off so we have spent our money on players. I don't see what his problem is with us. Secondly, Arsenal would have made losses if it wasn't for their huge property development business (they build apartments). 2009: 88m revenue from sale of apartments, group profit 45m profit. 2010: 137m revenue from sale of apartments, 56m group profit. Take out the apartments and their losses would have been 2009: -43m, 2010: -81m. In other words, their losses would have been bigger than ours (though not by that much). All because we haven't gone into the property development business.

I think we are fine. The rules are pretty lax over the first few seasons and tighten until 2018. By then the expensive players we have acquired over the last 5-8 years will have gone from the books. Our spending has been low for the last few years so if you include this window, it still looks respectable. http://www.transferleague.co.uk/league-tables/2006-2011.html This table doesn't include this window but as you can see, we are pretty low down the table.

Chelsea website match report says we played 4-1-2-1-2.

Magnificent Anelka throws down gauntlet to Torres
Cloudy replied to BlueLion.'s topic in Chelsea Articles
Best game this season and a switch to 442 with Anelka playing central just behind Kalou/Drogba. -
Welcome David to Chelsea! @pachman40 and Henrique. The previous thread is locked so I didn't get a chance to reply although it's a bit moot now that we've signed him. The link is here (The Independent) and the text is "Benfica are demanding a further £4m to cover development fees to Luiz's former club Victoria da Bahia and commissions to the agents involved". Looks like they dropped those demands.

It was in one of the english newspapers. Can't remember which one as I was flicking through all of them. One of the Independent, Guardian, Times or Telegraph.

Ha! I thought the club might post a huge amortisation loss. One of the ways to temporarily get round the FFP rules is to change the accounting from Amortisation to Expenses for transfer fees. Both these accounting methods are allowed under the rules. Amortisation means transfer fees are spread over the life of the contract. Expenses means the transfer fee is charged when actually paid. In other words, Expenses means take a huge loss now, and Amortisation means spread the loss over the 5 years (length of a contract). If you do this, it means you can spend a huge amount before the FFP rules come into effect in 6 months' time. The club have said that we made £15m profit from transfers and most of the loss is Amortisation. This means the actual Amortisation loss is £85m. But if you add up all the transfer costs for the players we have signed in the last 5 years, it adds up to £150m at a guess. So the amortisation loss should only be £30m. So I'm guessing they decided to write off all the past transfer fees in one go. It would also mean that the transfer fees we pay in this window won't count as part of the FFP rules. I'm not an accountant but if there are any accountants here, does the above sound right?
-
Before the thread was locked previously, Benfica upped their demands to £28m by insisting we pay the outstanding fee to the Brazilian club and the agent's commission at which point, we walked away because Benfica were taking the piss. We called their bluff and now they've come back. Let's hope it goes through now.

How to express our frustration with the board?
Cloudy replied to Swoopz's topic in Matthew Harding Stand
Our fans were pretty divided at the time as many thought he was past it and that it was too much money. We had just won back to back titles with huge fans favourites Drogba, Robben, Duff, (and Crespo) as a frontline. Taking him on would have meant a change in formation which many fans weren't too keen on. So him being one of the best strikers in the world didn't mean anything especially after his penalty shootout fluff allowed liverpool to win their CL. -
How to express our frustration with the board?
Cloudy replied to Swoopz's topic in Matthew Harding Stand
What frustration? I was more frustrated when we spent £30m on a useless Schevchenko. As for Robinho, we dodged a bullet there. -
Excellent tactical move by us as we have no intention of signing Torres. Totally destabilize LFC a week before we play them. Hopefully it won't backfire on us.
-
I don't think we put an official bid in. I've read the quote on Ath Madrid's website and it doesn't make sense. If RM did bid 45 mil then they can't say no because it matches his release clause. We may have spoken to AM last week but that was probably to scare Benfica into being more reasonable with Luiz and that probably worked since Benfica's president flew in to speak to us over the weekend.

Pienaar reveals why he didn't join Chelsea
Cloudy replied to Wilson's topic in Matthew Harding Stand
The title of this thread is a bit misleading. Pienaar didn't say anything. The quotes are from "a source" and was probably done to give Spuds some competition for his signature. -
I think Carlo is too careful. He says it is unfair to give the "keys" to the young players when we are in such a "bad moment". His philosophy is that young players should only be brought on when the game is safe and won. What's happening is that our experienced players are getting driven into the ground which will make them useless later on in the season. It's almost like he doesn't realize that the PL is a lot harsher on players than Serie A.

Absolute shambles and makes a joke of the rules. Getting your brother who runs Etihad Airlines to sponsor you for some ridiculous amount is pretty blatant. The money for the football club and the airline come from exactly the same source. We'll see what UEFA do. We should just buy up all the hotels, bars, restaurants in the vicinity of SB as "food and drinks" revenue is legitimate according to the rules.

Where Were You When We Were Shit ?

I went to Imperial too but it was such a long time ago, I don't remember much of it except the student union bar.
