I don’t think we are in comparable grounds here. We sort of really are playing real life FM which pretty much no other club is doing, replacing basically the whole squad. It could work but it would almost definitely work better with some experience mixed in. What we do know from loads of people that became top pros and won everything is that they speak a lot about the importance of the older, experienced heads around them before they hit their prime. We have real lack of that now. I think really you want one such person per area (GK, defense, midfield, attack).

Surprising no one has bought Zubimendi yet. Thought he was inevitably Barca bound but saw Laportes comments that they can’t afford him or Kimmich. Would be a rock solid midfield if we had Zubi, Caicedo and Enzo.

So losing Mount basically comes down to the new directors wanting players including him to be on low base highly performance related contracts I guess. They didn’t rate him so high they would break it for him but Todd was going to. Right call probs. sad to lose him all the same. Players that have a history with us like him are rare these days. Depends on his price / salary. If he is cheap, would add experience / depth to the midfield. Kessie is already excellent at pressing from midfield and pushing up to press in the attacking line, has a rock solid injury record, in general just a solid player. Could play in a 2 or a 3 midfield. We need numbers so I'm not averse to it tbh, although obviously wouldn't be the most exciting signing in history.

Amazing how many people on here do not understand this. I don’t think Boehly is involved (or trusted to be involved by the people with real power) in the sporting side anymore. He is lucky to still have a job and probably got a serious dressing down a few times over his performance in that role.

Would be a big bet to take him on. However, IF there was a phenomenal deal on the table with Lukaku going the other way then I would still be tempted and see what Poch and his staff can do with him. He is not yet in his prime and could improve a lot, so if we can get him for OK fee then should be resellable without huge faff. I guess Lukaku plus £20m would be the sort of deal I'd be open to.

Agreed. I hope we spend <£50m for most of our future signings tbh. Couple more expensive ones now if needed while we get some fundamental gaps sorted, and then it is time for our massive, expensive scouting / data team to deliver for us in the same way we've seen several other clubs manage. Healthy use of our sister clubs (Strasbourg + Portuguese team?) to buy up a bunch of promising <£20m players and develop our youth and Chelsea FC regularly buying <£50m players, and a team that is being constantly built and developed so that we never end up with a stagnant group of 33 year olds and another big bang rebuild job.

And not onto a base of a winning side, we are building something almost from scratch here

Shame Lampard isn’t in a job he’d be in for Mase with his whole budget. Tbh Bayern would be a good destination for him, guaranteed ‘successful’ career and a play style under Tuchel that will normalise his flaws (lack of creativity, vision, awareness of players around him, selfishness) within the turgid attacking system Tuchel believes in.
