Di Maria has been in the form of his life in 2014. He's been absolutely incredible but I do wonder how long he can keep this up. If he plays like this for the next five years, he'll go down as a great.

Be honest though, that was because of desperation. They're always quick to give such awards to a English/British player. Van Persie won Man Utd the league and he didn't win.. Bale winning those awards was just as ridiculous as Rooney winning the awards in 2009/2010 when they robbed Drogba. Bale winning Player of the Year in 2010/2011 was even more ridiculous. As for the discussion itself, Bale is better in your opinion. Nothing wrong with that. But when did Bale become a player hitting 30 goals per year though? He scored 12 in 2011/2012 and 26 goals in 13/14 for Tottenham. 22 for Real last season.

Bale is so massively overrated by many. So often I've seen him put in poor performances and it's just overlooked. Like his performances against Atletico recently. He didn't have any space to exploit, didn't do a thing. Or he plays poorly yet scores, so all the focus ends up on the goals. Reminds of Rooney until a year or two ago. He used to receive similar protection, now he's criticized so often. It's funny because there was a time the majority considered Bale as very overrated and I would be among those saying he's a real talent. Bale is a fantastic player, mainly because of specific qualities, like the ones you mentioned. But I'd much rather have Hazard.

Really nice to read this. He was far from his best, yet still fantastic, so I'm quite surprised by this article. Players like Hazard are seriously underrated. Nowadays analysing players is simply a case of taking a look at the match statistics and see whether the player in question has assisted or, more importantly, scored. If neither is the case, player X wasn't great or wasn't decisive (I cringe when I read that after a strong performance). Players like Nedved, Figo, Giggs, Pires, Scholes, Vieira, etc were all brilliant players in their time and received plenty of praise and recognition for their contribution to their teams and to football in general. They weren't stats kings though. Same goes for Chelsea's own Zola. Hazard, and many others like him, would receive so much more praise 10-15 years ago. But it's alright, I'll just continue enjoying Hazard's brilliance.

From what I've seen of Luis over the years, I'd say he's faster than Azpi. But not by much. If there's one thing Chelsea lack, it's fullbacks with real pace. Navas is very fast so whoever is facing him will have to outsmart him (if he's actually going to play).

Agree. I'm frustrated by the amount of chances the boys squandered. Chelsea was easily the better team. And Drogba was poor. But he also had games like this in his prime. Frustrating but it happens. Get over it.

Of course but a average or poor performance was always coming. So the many chances in such a performances is a positive sign. Just need to finish. I honestly didn't think the defending was that bad. Schalke mostly came up with long shots. But yeah, the concetration tends too slip a bit too often.

Finish off chances like in previous games and this game could've ended 4-1 (or 5-2, you pick). Hopefully this won't be the case vs City.
