Torres injury scare for Liverpool Liverpool face an anxious wait over the fitness of Fernando Torres ahead of their Premier League game against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Sunday. The striker was forced off in Spain's 1-0 win over France on Wednesday with what appeared to be a hamstring injury. The 23-year-old held the back of his right leg after a challenge from defender Lilian Thuram and had to be substituted in the 22nd minute. Torres is Liverpool's top scorer with 18 goals so far this season. He was signed from Atletico Madrid last summer for a club record believed to be £26m. Torres has now become invaluable to the out-of-form side and will be a major loss if he cannot face Chelsea as Liverpool chase Champions League qualification via a top four finish. Source : BBC

Avram Grant traded the Chelsea training ground in Cobham for a classroom at the Israeli Football Association headquarters as he began studying for the Uefa Pro Licence. The Chelsea manager took his place behind a desk at the Ramat Gan Stadium in Tel Aviv to start the course with a number of other leading Israeli coaches. The course is the highest coaching qualification and it is a requirement for all Premier League managers. Although Grant previously managed his national team and has won 10 trophies in Israeli club football, his qualifications were not recognised by Uefa. The Premier League, however, were satisfied after Grant agreed to take the course at the earliest opportunity. There had been fears that weekly sessions in Tel Aviv would affect his schedule with Chelsea, but it is believed that the FA Cup holders have made special arrangements with the Israeli FA so that Grant can complete the course with the minimum disruption. Grant will take some of the course in Israel but that will also be combined with work in England. The Pro Licence usually takes around a year to complete, although it is understood that the course Grant is taking will last about two months and involves 90 hours of study. Four of those days, however, may not apply to Grant because they include observation at a leading European team in the Champions League. Grant will be given homework during the course and will also have to prepare presentations on various topics. The course covers a number of areas relating to coaching and management, including advice on how to deal with any off-field issues for players. Only last week, Grant's Chelsea press conference was dominated by questions relating to Ashley Cole's readiness to play following tabloid stories concerning his private life. There was concern, meanwhile, yesterday for Yossi Benayoun after a Palestinian suicide bomber killed a woman in the Liverpool midfielder's home town of Dimona in southern Israel. Benayoun, who is in the national squad to play against Romania tomorrow, heard the blast and received a number of phone calls from friends to check his safety.

Despite joining Chelsea at the age of just 18, January signing Franco Di Santo is already eyeing up a place in The Blues’ first-team. The Argentinian striker was thought to be interesting a number of Europe’s most prestigious clubs last month, but opted to swap his Chilean club Audax Italiano for Stamford Bridge. He is now looking to force his way into Avram Grant’s plans but is keen to keep his feet on the ground in the presence of his more experienced team-mates. "I think you always have to be positive. I have confidence. After some time, two months or a year, I will fight for the position with anybody,” he told Chilean newspaper El Mercurio: "If I compare myself to them, the difference is huge, but it is because they have been playing for ten years. I know I cannot do the same as they do now, but I have some things they don't have - I am young!" The Argentina Under-20 starlet was also quick to sing the praises of his new club, claiming his previous perceptions of some players were quickly dispelled. "People here are so kind," said Di Franco. "I used to watch them on TV and told myself they would be arrogant but it is totally different when you are inside. "Despite all they have won, they treat you like one of them and you have to treat them the same. If not, they get angry. "I never imagined I would be here watching Michael Ballack, [Claudio] Pizarro or Frank Lampard playing pool in front of me. Being with them and spending time with them is unbelievable. "They help you in whatever you need. Whatever they can give to you, they do. I really don't want to wake up from this dream."
