If we've signed Matic, does that mean we're done for the transfer window?

Chelsea bid nearly 50 million euros for Aguero -report MADRID (AFP) – Chelsea have offered Spanish side Atletico Madrid nearly 50 million euros for their Argentine international striker Sergio Aguero, a newspaper reported Saturday. The English Premiership side would be willing to pay Atletico up to 57 million euros if the deal included another Argentine player, Maxi Rodriguez, sports daily Marca said. Atletico has consistently said that it does not want to let Aguero go. The 21-year-old son-in-law of Argentina manager Diego Maradona has a recision clause in his contract with Atletico worth 60 million euros. He joined Atletico in 2006 from Argentine side Independiente and is under contract with the Spanish team until 2012. Aguero scored in Argentina's 3-2 friendly victory over Russia on Wednesday. If he plays for Atletico during the club's Champions League qualifier against Panathinaikos next week he will not be able to play in a European competition for any other side this season. http://www.straitstimes.com/Breaking+News/Sport/Story/STIStory_417352.html

Chelsea given 24 hours to come up with £50m for Aguero Chelsea have been given 24 hours to meet the £50million get-out clause for Atletico Madrid's Sergio Aguero. The Spanish club are preparing for a Champions League qualifier against Panathinaikos on Wednesday and if no deal is done, Aguero will play meaning he will be ineligible to play for the Blues in Europe, suggesting a deal would be extremely unlikely. Atletico will be loathe to lose the Argentine striker but Chelsea boss Carlo Ancelotti would hate to miss out on another potential target. http://www.tribalfootball.com/Chelsea-given-24-hours-come-%C2%A350m-aguero-263993

Blues' D-Day on £50m Aguero Chelsea have 24 hours to meet Sergio Aguero's £50million get-out clause at Atletico Madrid. </h2> The Argie star is set to face Panathinaikos in tomorrow's Champions League qualifier unless the Blues increase their £42m bid. If Aguero plays, he will be cup-tied for Chelsea's own European campaign this season - scuppering the deal. Atletico insist they do not want to let the striker go. And the Spanish club fear a backlash from their fans if they sell Aguero, 21, so close to the start of the season. Missing out on anothermajor summer target would be a huge blow for Chelsea manager Carlo Ancelotti. He was pipped by Real Madrid in the race to sign Kaka. And the Blues' bid to land Bayern Munich ace Franck Ribery has also hit the buffers. Source: The Sun ROMAN, DO IT NOW YOU IDIOT!

The Giallorossi will shortly have another mega-money bid on their hands for their star centre-back... Despite Luciano Spalletti's declaration that Philippe Mexes would be staying put at Trigoria, the Giallorossi's management could be tempted by a bid from Carlo Ancelotti's Chelsea. According to 4-4-2.com, Ancelotti wants Mexes to partner John Terry in central defence this season and is willing to pay €14m plus Portuguese international Ricardo Carvalho for the Frenchman. Carvalho was linked with a move to Inter earlier this summer as Jose Mourinho looked to bring the 31-year-old to San Siro along with Deco, but the Nerazzurri were priced out of a move. The German website also suggests that, should Carvalho be unwilling to move to Rome, the Blues could use Jose Bosingwa as a makeweight instead. However, this would leave three centre-halves competing for two places and neither Mexes nor Carvalho would be content with a place on the bench. Another problem for Chelsea is the salary of any player they would use in exchange, as that player would be earning considerably less at Stadio Olimpico than at Stamford Bridge. One way round the problem would be for Chelsea to continue to pay a percentage of the player's salary, but Roman Abramovich has been attempting to cut costs at Chelsea this summer and is unlikely to look favourably on such a solution.
