I always dread penalty shootouts, be it with Chelsea, Benfica, or the portuguese national team, its just too nerve racking when everything is at stake, ive lost count of how many penalty shootouts i've seen, the nerves, the cries, the screams, the pains, the joys, damn its a lot to take emotionally specially when you're cheering for a team. Jorginho's penalty was absolutely dreadful, Luiz was unlucky to hit the post, but that kind of pen low to the keeper is always a risk because you want to hit with power near the post and it can backfire, i tought he was going to smash it just like in Munich, but whatever. Kepa should have saved Aguero's pen, who knows what could have happened, ya he saved Sane's pen, but the damage was done with Jorginho's failed pen, i know its easy to criticize from the outside, but im a GK too and i would be crucified for not saving that one.
That bullshit between Sarri and Kepa set the tone for the penalty shootout unfortunately, all that hardwork down the drain, this kind of shit was unthinkable during the old guard era.
its a big shame we couldnt win this cup, i was just remembering our run, knocking out the scousers at Anfield with Hazard's solo goal, knocking out Spurs over 2 legs in the semis, and now we could have beaten City if we just had more composure in front of goal, nevermind pens, thats just our sin, i know its just the Carling Cup but its a trophy nonetheless ffs, it can do wonders for a manager on his 1st season, specially for Sarri and also for the team's confidence, im just gutted right now. Just like Conte's first season in the FA Cup where we knocked out United, Spurs, and lost in the final to Arse.
on a side note: great pens from Emerson( reminded me of Ashley Cole in Munich), Azpi ( great strike in to the top corner) and Hazard (panenka right?, very cheeky)
