I'm sure you did an extensive study on these percentages, but Dr. Alun Williams, Director of the Manchester Metropolitan University’s Cheshire Sports Genomics Laboratory happens to disagree with you.
According to him scientific evidence suggests that athletic ability is dependent on both genetic and environmental factors.
“The genetic component appears to be around 50-70%, depending on what aspect of ability one is thinking about. Even a very favourable set of genes will not automatically make someone a good athlete, let alone a champion,” he said. “But certainly, if someone has a very unfavourable set of genes, in many sports no amount of training and diet will make them a champion.”
Anyway I suggest we close this topic and get back to the Charly Musonda discussion.

You might be right. Only players with a price-tag north of £30 million would be able to deliver a title. I am also looking forward to the relegation battle between Spurs and Leicester in the upcoming months

I would suggest you take a look around London, find your own talented youth and actually make them into good players in stead of roaming Europe to pluck away the almost finished product just to store them in your youth academy fridge for three years doing absolutely nothing with them. Brussels has 1 million inhabitants and keeps producing gems on an annual basis because we nurture them. London has ten or more times the people. There must be some good ones in there, no? Go find them and leave us alone.

He's just one of those talents where you know he's most likely going to be one of the top players in the world. Whether that's at our club or somewhere else, he'll do it somewhere

These are not ordinary first few games by any means. These are his first professional games, during one in which he had his nume sung by the Betis fans because he was so impressive. Not ordinary at all.
Anybody think he can get a starting spot at Celta Vigo? They play beautiful football and it would be a fantastic loan for him next season if the next manager isn't ready to yet have him in the squad. I really don't think Betis' style of football is ideal for his development for another 12 months.

Musonda didn't really get bullied. He's just playing on a poor team that couldn't string passes together hence why I compared them to a Championship team. They only had 1 win at home all season before yesterday. He didn't get a chance to showcase his ability because he simply couldn't get the ball.
Anyone downplaying his dribbling ability and being dismissive of that performance isn't being very smart. First thing you look at for players like Charly making the leap is if their technical ability can translate at the senior level especially for someone of his build. Any average young player can score a goal or make an assist. The key is seeing just how good his first touch, flair, intelligence, close control, dribbling and ball retention skills can be against first team opposition, & if he has the fearlessness to attempt them. The likes of Messi, Neymar, Hazard (not comparing him to them yet obviously) all had that early on, it's the mark of a special player. That's what I'm looking forward to seeing the most over these next couple of months.
All in all it was a very good professional debut especially considering he was playing out a position

I watched the entire match because football just isn't Mikel/Matic in the middle he was unreal which is staggering considering this was his professional debut. He started out at the right wing and although he drifted infield several occasions, pretty much played primarily there.
His dribbling ability is almost close to Hazard's level he even stole Eden's shield the ball with your arse and win a FK move. He ran them ragged for 90 minutes and got a ton of their players booked. He was so good that Gaya (one of the most promising LB's in the world) got sent off because he couldn't handle him. He's a dynamic player like Hazard, plays on the move and is a born entertainer. He even got his name chanted by the home fans towards the end which shows you I'm not exaggerating. Clear MoTM today, clever flick set up the cross which led to the winner.

Wish he was on a better team though. Betis play Championship football. They've even got the generic black DM and everything. Ball barely touched the ground in the opening half hour.

Also, i find it strange that he is not training with the loan group like Jeremie Boga. What are Chelsea gonna do with him now? I just hope he doesn't waste another year playing for the U21's hoping for some first-team minutes in cup games.

And this is the point some people don't understand, Players like Musonda don't need us. he will always be coveted by the top clubs and given opportunity at a big club that's willing to offer him that opportunity. His case is quite similar to Pogba. As long as he maintains his performance level, continues to develop and his reputation as arguably the best youth talent in his age group remains intact, he has little to worry about, career wise.
So if we lose him (which will be stupid considering the compromise we made in order to lure him here in the first place) it's our loss not his.

An 18 year old who is constantly overlooked in favour of clearly less talented and less deserving teammate (RLC and Brown in particular) is disappointed. Whats the issue?. Its just basic human nature. Virtually every single player in his position, regardless of age and maturity, will feel exactly the same way. They may not express it publicly like musonda did and might even sport fake smiles and demonstrate fake sportsmanship but deep down inside, they will all feel exactly the same because they are humans with feelings and emotions. So his only crime is for being real instead of being fake.
This would have been a problem if he wasnt /isn't arguably our best youth player withbgreat work ethic on and off the pitch. Then his actions would be classed as delusional and self entitled then but it's not. He deserves his spot on the team just as much as any other youth player, if not more, period

In any case, we should be nurturing our best academy players, not ditching them for expressing disappointment on Twitter. They're kids, they'll have plenty time to develop a professional attutude, i think it's retarded how people judge them based on social media posts.

I really doubt his comments were made against Brown, he probably just felt like he also deserved to be given a chance in that game (imo he deserved it more). Who says he didn't encourage Brown for his chance? He probably did and he has every right to be disappointed in not being given a chance, he just made the mistake of showing that disappointment in a stupid Instagram post. The kid really isn't such a whiny brat as some are making it look like, every interview I've seen of him makes him look like a pretty normal kid who likes to play football and will do everything to become a great player.

How does the statement "He ran the show" translate to meaning the player in question was the only outstanding player? This Chelsea youth team is far more talented than the one that Gael played in so it's only natural that he stands out more in a sea of mediocrity mixed in with one decent talent (Borini at the time). Quality teams full of talent will always have more than one outstanding performers at anyone time and that takes nothing away from outstanding individual performances. You don't get any extra point for being a big fish in a small pond.
The most pointless statement of the year. no one has claimed otherwise. the argument was whether your statement about kakuta being far more dominant for the youth team than Charly was accurate and a fair assessment or not.
First off, neymar despite being flashy was very productive and so was the one before him Ronaldinho.
Hazard, Isco, sanchez et al too are flashy but intelligent, productive and decisive players. The issue isn't about youth players being flashy but whether the flamboyancy is to the detriment of the team and hinders them from being productive and decisive. It's the decision making of knowing when to attempt a skill and what to do with the ball after and the tactical awareness and intelligence that distinguish the "flamboyant donkeys" like Kakuta, taraabt,Quaresma et al from the former.

Well i don't think we can blame the staff, they clearly rate him. Remember that we where the only club willing to buy all 3 Musonda brothers (altough the real target was Charly). Arsenal, Barcelona, Manchester City where all interested back in the day. Charly actually got a tour at their training complex through contacts made with Johan Boskamp (who is very close with the family). But they all weren't willing to take in his brothers as well. The staff doesn't decide if Charly get's chances in the first-team, that is Mourinho's choice. We also went through some changes in management since he signed, AVB was the manager when he arrived if i recall correctly.
He could've gotten chances under their direction, who know's. He was training regularly with the first-team when Benitez was here. It is also pretty clear that José prefers certain kind of players. Look at Izzy Brown, RLC, Boga... they are all physically well built. Something Musonda does not have. I doubt it even if he went on loan, he would get chances in the future under Mourinho. He just doesn't fit him like Mata/KDB didn't fit him.
If he does leave, it will be sad. But i can see Arsenal fitting better for a player with his ambitions and talent. 12 Million is a good price anyway for a youth player that hasn't played first-team football.

I'm not very impressed by YFC. Mirallas 2.0. Zero understanding of the game.
And yes, I say this youth player outclasses him in (almost) every aspect of the game. Musonda is without any doubt the biggest belgian talent we've got (since some dude called Eden).

I've seen them both play a lot in the belgian youth squads. Musonda is much better than YFC. In almost every aspect of the game. Different types of players offcourse, but still. Vision, passing, technical ability, ... name it.
If they actually want to hire Musonda, it's probably because they believe he could be an acquisition for the team. It's not a real argument to say he's never played a competitive game. He played alongside players like Tielemans and Malanda (RIP) and outshone them with ease.

We'll it is kinda strange. Jeremie was very up and down this year, with Musonda outshining him on several occasions. Boga got subbed off at half-time not that long ago in favour of Musonda (no injury). But yeah, Mourinho sticked with the same players he was pointing out at the beginning of the season (pre-season). You can actually compare it with the KDB and Mata situation, if they don't fit his profile chances are big that he won't feature them no matter how they perform.
It is unfair though, Musonda played his heart out in most games. Was very versatile/consistent(played as an 8, N10, right and left winger at roughly the same level), never injured, wasn't shy too defend (unlike Boga), but still went unnoticed by Mourinho. There are arguments to be made for Charlie Colkett as well.
Anyway, it doesn't really matter if Boga got the nod against Sunderland. Both will mostly likely go on loan anyway, and then we will see who will develop into a top player.

Based on talent, natural ability and merit, He, Colkett and Boga should be in the first team ahead of RLC,Brown (especially) and Christensen. It's abundantly clear to anyone who watches the youth and reserve team regularly that the latter is generally unreliable and he's far from our most impressive defensive talent (jay da silva is), RLC after the early promise he showed has been very inconsistent and often floats in and out of games for the Y&R team and Brown is a jack of all trade and a master of none to put it mildly .
Jose has gone for size over talent imo. Solanke is the only youth on the first team peripherals that ticks all the right boxes imo (ake no longer counts as youth in my eyes). There's also an hint of English bias but that's understandable as there's a greater need to fill the homegrown quota. whatever the case, Musonda is our best youth talent.

He is my MOTM in todays final together with Colkett.
He was outstanding. I often criticize his losing of the ball due to being weak; but I didn't see him lose the ball at all in the first half and he was playing in the pivot.
I'm very impressed with his eagerness to get stuck in today and sprinting back to track/mark/get back in position numerous times. That was very very good and it could make the difference in his career. That is some thing Josh Mceachran with similar physique and playing position has never managed to do.
    Well played Charly, well played
