When a player is tasked to get in behind and score goals then his finishing is the most important thing. I don't want to get in a pages long discussion again. However in our previous discussions I said that Werner misses a lot of chances and I don't think he's performing at a level where he should start week in week out. You countered my arguments, by saying that he offers more then just goals and should still start over CHO/Pulisic. The reason why I'm baffled now is because your whole point had nothing to do with his goal contributions but his performances. The fact that you now turnaround and say he's not good enough after the chance he missed today doesn't make sense to me. He still performs good enough to start for Chelsea according to you? Correct?

Look at the stats @Jason posted, his shots to goal ratio got significantly worse as of right now. I calculated the shots to goal ratio: Last season he had 117 shots and scored 28, which means his shots to goal ratio is 28/117 = 24% This season Werner's has had 62 shots on goal and scored 5 goals, which means his shots to goal ratio is 5/62= 8% As you can see his ratio got worse by 3 times! This clearly shows that his finishing got worse. I agree that he's had less shots on goal but we can't ignore that he was a much better finisher last season as I've shown you with facts just now. Look I disagree with you that the biggest problem is the style of play in the EPL. I think that the biggest problem is his mental toughness, which is the most important attribute in football. He's not dealing with the pressure that comes with being a Chelsea player just like many other players and he's facing the consequences on the pitch.
-
Appreciate it. This strengthens our point even more, that this has to do with mentality and nothing more. This narrative that the Premier League is full of low block teams and it's not possible for players like Werner to get a lot of goals is just stupid. Salah is similar, because most of his goals comes from him running in behind yet he scores loads of goals every single year. Werner got the opportunities to score and choked, he's just not ready to deal with the pressure which is unfortunate to see.
-
I find it surprising that you act like he hasn't been like this for atleast for 4 months. When I was criticising him, you were literally crucifying me for stating the obvious. Now after this miss, which looks normal to some of the misses he had this season, you turn around and do a 180π He's not a trainweck, because of this miss alone, but the enormous amount of misses he had before this. Do you now agree that Pulisic or CHO need a run of games on the left instead of Werner?π
-
I disagree because he's missed an abnormal amount of chances of this season. My mate who literally watches Bundesliga week in week out is texting me and saying that this is ridiculous even for his standards. He was actually banging in goals for the national team, and now he can't seem to score a single goal. Are you saying that he's not suited to the prem and you knew this all along? If so why have you been defending Werner while I was criticising him? Furthermore do you disagree that the way he's playing is a result of his confidence and not our playstyle? The reason why I'm asking this, because I think that you're undermining the importance of mental fortitude in football. Morata touched on the topic by stating that he needed a sports psychologist in order to succeed at Chelsea.
-
Can you back it up with stats of the amount of chances that were created for him last season compared to this season? I'm pretty sure it's not far off. I redirect you to my response to @Jason if you want to know what my opinion is of why he is failing this season.
-
You try to find logic and try to back up stats for why he is failing at Chelsea, but football is not all about stats mate. Football is 99% about a players mentality and he is mentally finished right now. He is used to being the main man at a smaller club, and when he came to this club he was not ready to deal with the pressure. I'm giving him next season to prove himself as I do with every player that comes to Chelsea, however we can't rely on him at this moment. It was very easy to see that he should've been benched a while ago, not only for the benefit of the team but also for the benefit of his season.
-
You're overcomplicating things, the amount of chances he's missed for us is a clear indication that space in behind is not an issue. The issue is his mentality, simple.
-
He did this for a long time now. I fail to see why people are surprised, and I'm being as genuine as I can. If you look at his miss compilation, then you'll see what I mean. Why do you think I was fuming when people were defending him, and making it seem like he is this undroppable player? As I said before we should bench him. If not then I can see his misses costing us against tougher opposition like Man City or Porto.
-
The fact that even you are speechless speaks volumesπ
-
Already lost patience with him a while ago, it's becoming normal now. His fans will always find an excuse for him though.π€·

True, but I really thought he'd be contending for Ballon d'Ors. He was an amazing talent.
-
True, stranger things have happened in football.......Adriano....
-
Is it not a testament to his game that his goalscoring record even exceeds the likes of Ronaldo and Messi at the age of 20? If you look at his play, you can clearly see that it's not flukey but he has a way of positioning himself and a way to use his physique to get in front of goal. What Haaland does has been a reoccuring theme for two seasons now, its not flukey tbh. I don't exactly know when Mourinho wanted Stones but I'm sure Pogba became available in the summer of 2016, no one was signing him before that. We all know that Mourinho becomes toxic regardless of backing or not. My friend who's a Real Madrid fan will tell you all about his toxicity even after he was backed.

He missed another sitter todayπ€¦ββοΈ......when will it end

"I don't necessarily disagree with you. Am just trying to look at what we can work with - e.g. the squad that we have - if we can't sign any striker of note this summer. It's not a complete lost cause because the potential is there." I see where you're coming from, I hope they massively improve and that Werner shows. If Werner is in his Leipzig form, then things will look much different. "By the way, it's also kinda ironic that we talk about getting a proper striker etc and while Haaland has shown that he can score goals, it's easy to forget that he's still inexperienced at leading a big side to major trophies." He has not proven to be a winner that leads sides to trophies. However what he is doing is freakish. He also performs against big teams and has a UCL records, and continues to break many more records. It's just that Dortmund is a lost cause. Their defense is horrible as well as their tactical setup. He can only do so much there. "But the board not fully backing the manager is nothing new, is it? It's not just because of Lampard's lack of credentials. Conte wanted duds but he also wanted someone like Van Dijk, only for the club to deem him too expensive, for example. Mourinho wanted Pogba and Stones but got neither, another example. Right or wrong, the club will always dictate the transfers. " According to VVD himself, Chelsea wanted him. He declined, and joined Liverpool afterwards because of Klopp. So we were actually in for him, you can look it up. Chelsea didn't back Jose after his title win, because of how toxic he was. Besides why would they back someone they were about to sack? He wanted to sign Stones in January 2016, a month before he got the sack. Same with Pogba, he wanted him in the summer of 2016. He wanted to stay and get backed after his usual toxic behaviour, you know how bad it gets with him.

I think our forwards will get better with time ofcourse, but I think they won't become good enough to challenge for the league. I have no problems with our defence however. We need a proper striker in order to challenge, and I stand by that. Like I said, there was doubts about Lampards pedigree as a manager. He got top four, but if you look at the context of the season then you can understand why they didn't fully back him. He got us Champions League football, but the way the team performed was not convincing enough for the board to fully back him. He didn't have the CV for the board to fully back him. Imagine he got his wish and they bought Tarkowski instead of Thiago Silva? It was the right decision at the end of the day, so I don't see your point no offense.

"Man City and Liverpool have the benefit of their squad being together longer and are at their peak age. Ours aren't there yet but they can get there. Those 2 clubs didn't get to where they are now (excluding Liverpool's form this season) without 1-2 seasons of suffering. " I agree and I've been saying that, however they build a squad in their image as well. Tuchel has just come in, so it'd be silly to think he's ok with not adding a single forward. Pep and Klopp didn't get to where they are without signing players that fit their system. It's not just about 'suffering', but building a team in their image as well. If we don't sign a forward for next season, then I can bet my house that we are not challenging next season. In order to challenge, your attack has to have a very high output. From what we've seen so far, there is nothing to suggests we'll have killers in the box next season. We can only use what ifs and hope Tuchel does some magic. The reality is that there literally is no logical arguments for our current forwards to perform like the Man City or inform Liverpool attack next season. "The funny thing is, will Tuchel even get much say in our transfers?" If he finishes the season with top four, then they'll 100% back him. Just like they backed Lampard when he got us the top four. Plus it's a myth that every manager at Chelsea don't get the signings they want. Top class managers that the board can trust get backed. Look at Sarri for example, he got Jorginho, Kovacic and Higuain. Conte signed Kante, Alonso etc. He didn't get backed in his second season because he always throws tantrums at every club he goes to and also the fact that they didn't want to sign Lukaku who's an ex player. Mourinho signed Drogba, Carvalho, Ferreira, Fabregas and the list goes on. Those are all the players he specifically wanted. Lampard didn't get fully backed because the board still had some doubts on him, and rightfully so. "The problem is, if we can't/don't get Haaland, then which proven goalscorer can we get? Kane is impossible (LOL). Lukaku very unlikely, unless Conte leaves and/or Inter's financial situation blows up. Other than those two alternatives, the rest aren't quite at the highest level. " That is my point, we shouldn't sign a young talent if Haaland is not available for us. We should go for a proven short term fix, then see what's out there next summer. Lukaku would be the dream, but we know the board are reluctant on buying expensive ex-players.
-
We can only hope they'll get better moving forward. However if we're going by what we're seeing right now, then it's not looking good. I know why you're trying to compare us to City and Liverpool, but they are just better at scoring than us. Before this season, Liverpool had Mane and Salah banging in goals for them with Firmino being the creative force. Manchester City this season just have better midfielders and forwards then us, period. Not strengthening our attack and relying on the likes of Havertz, Mount, Werner etc to challenge City next season is just suicidalπ They've not shown anything that tells me we can challenge for the title next season. Our defence has just been superb under Tuchel, we just need to fix our attack in order to challenge City who'll also sign forwards probably. We have to remember that Pep and Klopp build their own squad by buying their own players. Klopp signed Salah/Mane/Firmino for example and Pep signed Mahrez/KDB/Silva/Sane etc. Who says that Tuchel is happy with his forwards at the moment? This is not his team and I'll be very surprised if he does not sign a forward, but we'll see what happens in the summer. Out of all the names the Athletic mentioned, I rate Isak and Andre Silva. Both of have the potential to become very good in the future. I'd still like a proven goalscorer though.
-
They have extremely creative players though. KDB, Sterling, Mahrez, Gundogan, Silva etc are on another level compared to our attackers. Plus they've played with eachother for numerous seasons. A striker is very much needed, don't let City's success blind you. Besides, City didn't really have much of a challenge this season. United being 2nd sums everything up.
-
That forward line is worrying, considering how we're struggling at the moment. Tuchel might change things though.
-
Giroud or Tammy might leave though, and we will definitely need a replacement. Maybe Aguero on a free might be a good short term solution. Who knows?π€·

What's going on in Qatar is horrible. It's literally modern slavery. However I don't believe that these football organizations speak up because of their moral compass. They're not consistent when it comes to the World Cup in Russia, or the Uyghur concentration camps in China. Why? It's all business for them that's why.
-
True, if he's not available then get someone who's of a similar profile, if Haaland doesn't come of course. My point is that if we don't get Haaland we shouldn't rush it and sign a long term striker, when in my opinion no one else is really available. People shouldn't underestimate the impact the World Cup has on club football. Many stars have put themselves on the map in a WC tournament, then got signed by big clubs afterwards. Think of Ozil, Ramires, Mascherano, Khedira, Tevez, Cavani, Sanchez etc. There might be a new guy on the block, who's touted to be the next world class striker next summer. We should be patient and keep that in mind to be honest.

Immobile has grown as a player and if you use the eye test and watch him play for Lazio, then you can see that he is one of the most lethal finishers in the world. (Scored a very good goal as I was typing this). Having 4 years on your contract does not necessarily mean that the player will be expensive. He's still 31 years old, which means that it would be silly for him to be overpriced.
