I doubt this thread will get much use since there's only a few people here with an interest in it and the sports are only really played in Ireland. If anyone does want to discuss Gaelic football or hurling or even has any questions, then here is the place for it.

Never understood the appeal for the football side of GAA, it just seems to me like a bunch of football (soccer) failures.

Can't control it?...Pick it up.

Can't score a goal?...Kick it over the bar.

Can't make a good tackle?...Rugby tackle them. laugh.gif

 Ah it's not that bad. You'll also get people who say that it can be less boring than football (soccer) :censored:, but it's really whatever you're into. It's more local too, like there's four or five football clubs in Dublin but none other than Athlone Town and Longford Town in the midlands. The League of Ireland isn't popular enough either so that wouldn't help.

Inter-county Gaelic players put a lot of work into training as well, so I doubt they would be that bad at soccer or rugby if it came down to it.

I was at the match against Cork, really hoping Roscommon could pull off a shock but it wasn't to be. The crowd you brought that day was immense though! I'm pretty sure there was a banner in tribute to Dermot Earley Snr too, which was a nice touch.

The Kildare footballers play Wicklow tomorrow, with Laois playing Longford beforehand. Kildare should win, but it could be tough with the few injuries we have. Looking forward to it.^_^ I'll be missing the Chelsea match unfortunately, but hopefully both teams win!

Yeah we brought some crowd, Was walking to the train station where hundreds of Roscommon fans were (Carrick-on-Shannon) and some homeless guy asked me if there was a match today, I was laughed and told him nah.

Yeah there was a tifo type banner, and loads of half Roscommon half Kildare jerseys with Early 8 on the back. Stayed for your match with Meath, was hoping Meath would win

You should really beat Wicklow, there poor.

Leinster

Laois 0-10 Longford 0-9

Kildare 0-12 Wicklow 0-5

Westmeath 4-10 Carlow 1-14

I was at the match between Kildare and Wicklow and despite a 7 point winning margin, it wasn't a great game. John Doyle, who played in midfield today, was reliable as always for Kildare though. Meath up next in the Leinster quarter final on June 5th.

For fuck sake, I'm from North Roscommon, on the leitrim border and go to school in Leitrim, and when they play in Carrick there is always a HUGE session before and after it, We have our Leaving Cert the next fucking day, Completly raging, There'll be about 2,000 at it aswell. Handy enough route to the Connaght final though, and I think we can give Mayo/Galway a beating aswell, Look out for our 2 forwards, Donal Shine and Senan Kilbride, who was injured last year, Everyone know's about Shine, but Kilbride brought St Bridgets to the All Ireland club final by himself, He's a class act and an underdog for an All star if Roscommon go far this year.

Two matches on today in the football, in both Leinster and Ulster. Offaly were beaten by Wexford in Tullamore on scoreline of 2-16 to 0-8. Wexford absolutely destroyed them by the looks of it.

The other match, Armagh against Down, which was actually on the BBC, was a five point win in the Orchard County's favour. Saw a bit of the beginning of it myself and it looked like Armagh had the majority of the control in it from the beginning.

Armagh go on to play Derry and Wexford will play Westmeath.

Most of the action in football takes place tomorrow, with games in Leinster, Munster and Ulster. Kildare, my county, play Meath tomorrow and since they're also local rivals it's a pretty big occasion. When it comes to GAA coverage in the papers this week, it seems these two teams are dominating the news. Both teams have their share of difficulties, with Kildare's being on-field (with two key midfielders being out due to injury) and Meath's off-field (selectors leaving the management team). I don't think either of these are overly affecting either the teams all that much but we'll have to until tomorrow to find out. C'mon the Lilies!

Today's results:

Gaelic Football

Leinster

Kildare 0-16 Meath 0-10

Dublin 1-16 Laois 0-11

Munster

Cork 5-17 Waterford 2-8

Ulster

Tyrone 1-13 Monaghan 1-11

Well, Kildare have defeated Meath three times within a year and two have been in the Championship. :champions:

It wasn't the best first half, pretty dull and ended 0-7 to 0-5 in the Royal's favour. The second half saw more action from Kildare, with Eamonn Callaghan scoring 4 points and James Kavanagh even coming close to scoring a goal. Graham Geraghty now at 38, came on as a sub about mid-way through the half to the crowd booing. Only on a few minutes, Geraghty scores a goal which was disallowed by the umpires, apparently wrongfully. Kildare came away with a 6 point win in the end, and go on to face Dublin in the Leinster semi-final.
