With Mikel being absent on African Nations Cup duty, a common thread on this site suggested we`d be going into the match, against Spurs, without a defensive midfielder.

However, it transpires, according to Chelsea TV, that Claude Makelele is in contention for a recall tomorrow.

The French midfielder has been absent in recent weeks after undergoing an operation, on his ear, to correct a balance problem.

Whether Claude will start or play the entire ninety minutes is debatable but his inclusion would certainly steady a few apprehensive nerves floating around.
