BlueLion. 21,491
A number is a number. Players only change because traditionally, numbers 1 through 11 were the players who played in the first team during a match.
We Hate Scouse 10,326
Messi was number 30 but changed it to the number 10, because numbers are important to the modern day player. It clearly isn't important to the modern day player otherwise every squad would be full of players numbered 1 to 11. TylerCFC 7
It clearly isn't important to the modern day player otherwise every squad would be full of players numbered 1 to 11.Having a marketable number is important. Take Zola for example, we'll always remember him as #25 we won't call him our #7 because thats the position he played.
Term-X 7,891
It clearly isn't important to the modern day player otherwise every squad would be full of players numbered 1 to 11.so Messi isn't a modern day player.. I'm sure Ronaldo would have had a heart attack is real had presented him with the number 29, as long as money is involved in football numbers will always be important. boshman 1,073
I agree with TylerCFC, having a marketable number is important. When players like Kakuta and Borini become more established they will definately be given a more marketable number than 44 or 45 which i think Borini has. I believe that your shirt number is very much a part of modern day football. Its what you will be remembered by when you leave. Like Tyler said. Zola will forever be remembered as number 25 in the same way Terry will be remembered as number 26 and Lampard 8. Anyway, my answer to the actual question, lol! My choices would be4. Gerrard (A bit controversial but he may leave Liverpool if they dont qualify for the champions league and he has nearly joined before)7. Ribery9. Aguero
