Speculation was rising last night that former Chelsea boss Avram Grant is being lined up as a possible replacement for Guus Hiddink as Russia manager.

This would allow Dutchman Hiddink to remain at Stamford Bridge, despite his insistence that he intends to return to Moscow at the end of this season.

The rumours were fuelled by Grant's presence in Russia at a game also attended by Chelsea owner and Russian national team benefactor Roman Abramovich.

Officials from the Russian Football Union, in charge of the national side, were also at the match.

'I'm on a private visit here,' insisted Grant.

The Israeli coach did nothing to rule out taking over a Russian club - or even the national team if Guus Hiddink stays on at Stamford Bridge.

'Is it possible that I'll take a job in Russia? My answer is: nothing can be ruled out.'

If the Russian Football Union have an ounce of common sense they'll steer well clear of the fake....

Lets hope for our sake they don't!

Come on Avram blag your way through it like you did to get the Chelsea job!
