Kenyon: Roman is here to stay

PETER KENYON insists Roman Abramovich has no intention of selling Chelsea. The Russian billionaire was a regular spectator during Jose Mourinho's reign as manager.

He is rarely seen at Stamford Bridge these days and Uli Hoeness, Bayern Munich's general manager, fuelled speculation by revealing he had heard the Blues were up for sale.

But Kenyon has dismissed the rumours as complete 'rubbish'.

Speaking at a fans' forum, Chelsea's chief executive said: "There has been a lot of rumour and speculation surrounding Chelsea and the owner's commitment to the club.

"I can assure you on his behalf that this is totally unfounded and anything else you might read about this is rubbish.

"Chelsea are not for sale.

"The owner has not and is not looking to sell his interest in the club and he remains as committed as ever."

Hearing anything from Kenyon is always unnerving but fortunately, the fact that Abramovich has said he's going to sue over the stories seems to suggest he really hasn't got any plans to go anywhere.

“Defamation proceedings will be commenced tomorrow (Monday) in London by Roman Abramovich against the publishers of The Sunday Times.

This follows the publication by them of false claims that he wants to sell his interest in Chelsea FC. Mr Abramovich has already made quite clear, through the directors of Chelsea, that he has no intention of doing so and that neither he nor anyone upon his behalf has been pursuing any such course of action.”

Chelsea are confident that the publication of their annual financial results next month will bring an end to rumours regarding Roman Abramovich’s commitment to the club he bought six years ago. The club strenuously denied reports yesterday that the Russian wants to sell and has begun sounding out potential buyers in the Middle East.

Chelsea publish their results for the year ending June 2007 next month and they are expected to include a clause demonstrating the owner’s commitment. Abramovich was in touch with members of the board via e-mail yesterday to reassure them that he had not authorised anyone to conduct negotiations on his behalf with regard to a potential sale.

“I can assure you on his behalf that this is totally unfounded and anything else you might read about this is rubbish,” Peter Kenyon, the chief executive said. “Chelsea is not for sale.”

I reckon we probably doing quite nicely now financially! The only thing left to do really is increase our stadium capacity which will increase our income...it has worked wonders for Arsenal
