My team:

GK- Cech - slightly biased, perhaps, but he was certainly the most consistent of the five last season. I was tempted to go with Casillas, but despite a good Euro championships, he certainly wasn't invincible in La Liga, conceding 32 goals in 36 games, in comparison to Cech who kept 15 clean sheets in 21 matches.

RB - Sergio Ramos - perhaps the best defender in the world. Was brilliant throughout the season for Madrid and did no falter for Spain in the summer. Such a consistent season - and he's only 22.

CB - Vidic - Rio Ferdinand gets all the acclaim at the heart of the United defence, but when Vidic doesn't play, they leak goals and lack leadership at the back. Certainly one of the best centre-backs of his generation

CB - Carvalho - again, somewhat biased, but Riccy truly is the world's greatest centre-back. In recent seasons, he has made the invincible John Terry look poor in comparison, and his display against Valencia in the Champions League in October 2007 is perhaps the greatest performance by any Chelsea defender in seasons.

LB - Lahm - in defence, Lahm is everywhere, covering the centre backs with his speed and tenacious tackling ability. Going forward, he's even more menacing, as the little German's shooting ability is well-documented, having netted three goals this term already.

RM and LM - Ronaldo and Ribery - the two best wingers on the planet scored more than 65 goals between them last season. Need I say any more?

CDM and CAM - Xavi and Lampard - Xavi, voted the best player in the UEFA Euro 2008 championships, is arguably the best centre midfielder in the world, capable of filling in in an attacking or defending position. At Barcelona, the team revolves around him, not Messi, much like Lampard at Chelsea, who scored 20 goals in 40 games in an injury-blighted season.

CF and CF - Benzema and Torres - Nothing needs to be said of Benzema's talent nor Torres' ruthlessness in front of goals - 56 goals between them suggests they are two very in-form forwards. ]

Manager - Advocaat - the UEFA Cup, the Supercup, the Russian Premiership and the Russian Cup in all one year? Well done to you, sir!

You must have no idea how shite Real Madrid's defence is compared to Chelsea tbh. Cannavaro has been cack since WC 2006 and Pepe is kinda shit too
