.Cee 50
For some of our youngsters to get a few games with the injuries we've been getting? F Broadway mentioned January acquisitions on another thread, but I hope not cause I'd like to see our youngsters get some chances to play. Di Santo, Sinclair and co. would never be good enough for the first team if they don't get a fair share of chances. Also, some of our key players are on the wrong side of 30; Lamps, Deco, Riccy, etc. so we should try to give the reserve players a few games a season from now. That way they'll be (hopefully) ready by the time Lamps and co. retired. Thoughts?
Fulham Broadway 17,310
Di Santo is , and will get some more run outs, as will Sinclair. The club has a habit and neccesity to buy proven players though, as have all top clubs and this will continue.
EskWeston 696
Di Santo and Sinclair are getting their chances. It is unrealistic to think of them as regular starters, a dozen apperances would be a good return for them. Also we are unlikely to see players breaking through at Chelsea at 17, 18, 19 for us it will be once they hit 20/21 that they will have had loan spells, time with the first team and really ready to break through. .Cee 50
Oh, and the loans... Why do we always loan them to Championship clubs? Surely loans to small clubs in the EPL would be better. Small clubs who'd give the loanees a lot of games to play. Sahar went on loan to Portsmouth and he didn't play a lot because the strikers there are much better than him. Maybe we made a mistake making Sinclair and Sahar go on too many times and should've let them stay at the club instead. Loans to clubs in the premier leagues of France and Holland would be better, too. They're quite famous for producing great/world class talents. Fulham Broadway 17,310
If loaned to another Premiership club, all sorts of politics come into play. Less games, potential undermining of the players confidence, legal clauses about who they can and cant play, and in what competitions. Similar complications with loaning to foreign clubs, unless its a long term agreement. With Championship clubs it more or less gives them regular games, with less complications, and usually an option for an early recall. .Cee 50
Even so, the competition on EPL would be better than the Championship so the club should take the effort to sort them out...
EskWeston 696
Even so, the competition on EPL would be better than the Championship so the club should take the effort to sort them out... The players just wouldn't get the playing time in the PL, they won't be willing to take risks on these players when survival is at stake for them. Loans to the champsionship is perfect, they get games, competitive football and a step up from the reserves. To show just how important these loan spells are to the players, loan periods in the Championship have earned places in the England U21's squad for Mancienne, Bertrand and Cork! What about loans to clubs like PSV or Marseille? Alex turned out good after a few years on loan with PSV. Maybe the factor that he stayed at one club instead of moving around a few different clubs helped, too.
Fulham Broadway 17,310
Alex went to PSV on loan because he couldnt play for us. There are a lot of problems with work permits with South Americans, which are not so stringent in other European countries

Maybe we should try loaning our youngsters there instead of Championship clubs as the competition is much better. Like I said, Alex turned out good after a few years there. EskWeston 696
The player would have to be pretty special for PSV to play on a regular basis, as Rajkovic found out last season, he has ended up at FC Twente this season. Plus the English game is what the players need to get used to and the Championship is the perfect step up for them, physical competition. Arjen Robben, Alex & Kalou came to us from Holland and they're/were good for us (only good for Robben cause of the injuries) so it's not really a big problem. Ok, so not PSV but there are clubs like FC Twente who'll give the youngsters quite a lot of games.

I think Dutch football have come to terms that they are going to be selling clubs rather than being among the big hitters in european football. They have to make income that way rather than relying on income elsewhere.
EskWeston 696
Would being on loan at FC Twente be any better than being on loan at Southampton or Norwich?
.Cee 50
The competition in the premier Dutch or French League is better than the Championship imo.
