We need a DLP first! So many world class strikers would struggle here, he won't be any different. He will probably score a few out of nothing but we need to sort the midfield out. We would need someone like Ronaldo to dismiss the lack of creativity in midfield

Post of the year.

sums up my feeling quite succinctly. it's no coincidence that our strikers (whoever it is) continue to score poorly on the clear cut chances per game chart since the 09/10 season. We clearly don't have a player with the ability and vision to consistently thread the defense splitting through balls and diagonal passes from deep. that's how top teams often break down pack defenses. You will never see clubs like Juve, Bayern,Dortmund struggling to break down teams that camp in their own half because they have that much needed creativity from deep.

And the baffling thing is, the so called expert, i.e scouting department, analyst, coaching staff, emenalo et al fail to spot and address this glaring problem instead they continue to buy more attacking midfielders.. . yeh that would help

The non existent attacking threat and ineffective overlapping runs and rubbish crosses from Ivanovic and Ashley cole doesn't help matters too tbf.

It goes without saying that what I do say is my opinion... I didn't say anywhere that it's a fact.

If you think Falcao is better than Aguero and Suarez then fair enough, that's your opinion. I don't though, which is exactly why I listed 5 strikers whom I think are better than Falcao - also to eridicate the "he's not even the best striker in France" opinion to show you that I think there are better strikers out there than him, regardless of what league they're in.

That is not the point. The point is that saying Falcao isnt even the best striker in France is meaningless for the argument of buying or not buying him.

Ok, Falcao isnt the best player in France, so what? What part of it plays into the argument of him being a good signing or not?

The only conclusion I get to is that you are saying we shouldnt buy him because he isnt the best striker in the world. Like clubs only have to sign the absolute best in order for it to be worth it...

Lodge ourselves between Dortmund and Munich and get Lewandowski, he's the solution to the striker issue then get DPM and bingo!!!

When are people gonna realize Lewandowski is committed to Bayern? Its a foregone conclusion people... FOREGONE.... GONE... Will never happen

We would be complete mugs if we have the ability to buy Falcao and opt not to. Easily one of the most clinical finishers in the world... You give him Hazard, Oscar, Willian, Mata, Schurrlë and you have a striker with the space and ability to score 30 per season, no doubt about it.

How much difference do you think Falcao can make at Chelsea? And do you think this amount is worth spending 50 million pounds for a 28 years old player?

P.s: I think these are some bs rumors.

A world class striker in his prime could be the difference between winning the prem and finishing 3rd....

between winning the champions league and going out at the knockout stages.

Falcao is without a doubt a match winner of the highest order and I'm sorry those types are priceless. 50M is serious cash but he's money in the bank since his goals will improve our ability to win silverware dramatically

That amassing striking talent isn't generally the best way to win trophies. Building a strong team with a strong foundation is, and if we actually focussed on doing that then we could have success with the striking talent we already have.

Adding Falcao to our team doesn't solve the biggest problem - the midfield.

So am I to believe we are actually scoring enough goals to win titles? I don't buy it... we're leaving loads of points on the table due to the lack of a clinical striker.

Let's sign another expensive striker that relies heavily on the creativity of the players behind him to flourish in a team that often struggle to consistently create clear cut chances. genius idea.

Isn't that exactly what we have in Hazard, Oscar, Mata, Willian?

The problem isn't the players behind the striker its the movement of the striker and his ability to convert opportunities as they are presented.

That's spot on, Eto'o for example has the best movement out of all our current strikers but it's still not quite at the level needed. Torres tends to end up in positions where he basically doesn't affect play while Ba is immobile for large portion of matches.

This is illustrated by the amount of shots our strikers are able to take:

Eto'o with his superior movement has averaged 2.7 in the League and 2.8 in the CL - which illustrates he is able to get into a position to shoot at a pretty respectable rate

Torres with his movement usually ends up on the wing or outside the box averages 1.7 in the League and 2.0 in the CL

Demba Ba is the worst in this regard but he has played the least and as I've said in the past the thing I don't like about Ba is how immobile he seems for large parts of the match so it's no suprise he averages 1.7 shots per game.

I think it's safe to say teams play us very differently. They sit and wait for us to make a mistake and our opportunities to score are scarce. We need someone who is clinical to capitalize on the few chances we get to score early. That will force teams to come out and allow us to utilize our strengths best.

Name a striker that doesn't need this.

Falcao can score world class goals on his own like every other top striker, but the majority of the time, you still have to get the ball to them.

Just off the top of my head from Past and present. Ronaldo lima, romario, Henry,Van basten, Del piero,Batistuta,Suarez,Rooney,Aguero, van persie. should i go on or you want more names?

These strikers never need (ed) clear cut chances in order to score. they are/were so technically gifted that they routinely made defenders look like complete mugs and could consistently create their own chance all you have to do is pass them the ball anywhere, in and around the box.

The truth is, we lack creativity as hard as that may sound given the wealth of attacking midfielders we posess and until we fix that problem buying another mechanical striker would never be the solution the current set up and situation.

Suarez is one of a kind, i'll agree with that.

As for the others, there's a difference between being clinical with not depending on others. Because a lot of the times i see Rooney, RVP and Aguero score, it's from good passes/crosses from their team-mates. It's like saying CR7 doesn't depend on anyone to get goals.

We do lack creativity and play slow football, and everyone you mentioned there minus Suarez won't score the same amount of goals for us, as they are for their current teams.

It was more of a statement between the type of player we need rather than a Falcao type.

We're leaving loads of points on the table because we're not a great team and that stems from a lack of strength in midfield to control the game. Sticking another chimney on the roof means fuck all if the foundations are rotten.

What? You're putting words in my mouth now... I wasn't using the fact that he wasn't even the best striker in France as an argument of us not buying him. If you read the discussion I was having with ElTigre you'd see that he thought Falcao was the best striker in the world and that's why I said he's not even the best striker in France. You've completely taken that part of my argument out of context.

I disagree. To me a match winner of the highest order is as important as a great holding mid. It just so happens Falcao may be available and for that reason we take a look at acquiring him.

If we acquired say... Pogba would it negate the need for a match winner?
