Statistically speaking I would not be so surprised to see us so far up there, but surely the likes of Inter and Man United, national champions, would be higher?

I think that is based on our European performances, and given the fact we've got to the Semi Final 3 times in 4 years it's hardly surprising we're now ranked top. Teams that have got to the final haven't done as well in other years which is why us steady eddies are top.

Amusing that Newcastle are near the top of the table.

I don't think it has anything to do with domestic games, just European games. What you see there are the official UEFA coefficients, although I think perhaps they have been worked out by someone else following UEFA's formulae.
