manpe 10,861
So there's this group of people who travel to a remote island called Midway Atoll in the Pacific Ocean, which is more than 2000 miles away from the closest continent, to film its habitats, birds, dying from eating plastic. There's this video going around in Facebook, which is pretty shocking: http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?v=10200089470495874&set=vb.1123245030&type=2&theaterThey have a YouTube channel as well. Peace. 4,352
That's revolting, disgusting. And while I was looking at this thread, there was an ad on the TV. An ad for a movie — another american super-production — where the human race, once again, was saving the humanity, the planet Earth and the Universe. *Shake my head*Funnily enough, within movies we portray ourselves as the saviours of the Earth while in reality we are destroying it. We are truly a despicable race.

manpe 10,861
And what's even more disgusting is that I watch those videos and think out loud that "oh human race is disgusting, people suck" and whatnot, at the same time I do absolutely nothing to change the situation. I will keep consuming plastic and other harmful stuff without thinking twice. I am too lazy to recycle, I throw cigarette butts on the streets, I throw batteries in a regular bin, I eat in fast food joints who are the biggest forrest cutters and wood wasters around. I shower, which is actually the laziest and most wasteful way to wash. And the list goes on.I am a hypocrite and I don't like myself. I am a typical selfish programmed consumer who can't see beyond his own nose. I have no right to get angry at those things, because I am the cause. Fuck ME! Its incredibly hard to boycott everything that is destroying the world. Maybe even impossible in a modern society. In my opinion the world needs someone that will speak to the world and stuff like that (think Ghandi or Dr. King).
Ollie 4,400
Hope the message can be spread because it's really horrible to see. It wont get any better probably but at least people will think twice if they see this. I don't litter at all tbh, i just never do it, there's no need. There are bins everywhere and if there aren't i keep it in my pocket til i find one.

The world has changed a lot since those personages' times and the circumstances, especially those about who's actually running the system, are not comparable to what's happening nowadays, imo. Peace. 4,352
And what's even more disgusting is that I watch those videos and think out loud that "oh human race is disgusting, people suck" and whatnot, at the same time I do absolutely nothing to change the situation. I am a typical selfish programmed consumer who can't see beyond his own nose. I have no right to get angry at those things, because I am the cause. Fuck ME!Well, that has been a long time that I wanted to reply to that, but I did forget... Strangely enough, it's only now that Morpheus (the diety, I mean) doesn't want to hold me in his arms that I remember...!I am just as you. Yeah, I try to care : whenever a light is unnecessarily on, I turn it off ; I try to use as little water as I can (I turn off the water when brushing my teeth or washing my hands, etc...) ; etc... But aside from that, I do not do anything special to protect the Earth. Nonetheless, that does not prevent me to point out how much disgusting the human race is for what it's doing to the planet Earth. But, firstly, it's hard to something meaningful for the environment, in our positions. It's the society we live in that wants that. If you don't want to buy items with to many packings, what can you possibly do ? Items are more and more wraped within packing (in supermarket/mall, fast food, etc...) ! If you don't want to eat a sheep coming from New-Zealand or Australia, you will have to fork a lot more money to buy one coming from your country. And it's so easy to buy strawberries, even it's not the season for them to grow, because sunny countries dry up their groundwaters to make them grow (that's the case of Spain). And yeah, you could carry yourself with your feet, instead your car at every occasion... But you will lose time, and in this society, we don't have time. The problem is the society we are living in. If we don't want to take part in this massive consumer society, the only way is either to be an out-caste in your country (and you will struggle to live decently), or go and live in "poor" country. Finally, you might be a hypocrite, but I'd like more hypocrites like you. Yeah, because what's we need at the moment, it's not a few people doing ecological stuffs. We need to be all aware — just like you — that we are destroying the Earth. Realistically, how many people around you do realize this fact ? Not many, not enough. To turn around things regarding the protection of the environment, we need to change the way we live. And to change the way we live, we need to change the society. And to change the society, we need to change the vast majority of people's mind. Otherwise, we will be stuck in the same shit and nothing will change. Finally (twice..), I think it's better to have people like you being aware of their wrongs, than having snob pseudo-ecologists who are only to blame the average Joe because they feel better than you (the episode "Smug alert !" of South Park is pretty good on this topic).
