Hd123 5
As the topic suggests, do you believe that players have become too expensive? Are they being paid too much?Would you like to see some form of salary/transfer cap imposed? It is absolutely ridiculous that players earn upwards of 100k p/w while many of fans cannot afford hiked up ticket prices due to today's financial crisis. As for the transfer values, 50m Torres and 35m Carroll has ensured that if you have any sort of talent, you will come with an extra 20m fee. francozola 2,040
It has become ridiculous but I don't think that it's possible to stop it now that it's gotten to this stage. Salary cap will just make players go elsewhere because most of them would be enticed by the money - even the so called loyal players. Fulham Broadway 17,312
All top clubs are businesses, the football comes further down the list. Most of their revenue comes from TV rights, rich billionaire buyers who see the clubs as way to make more money, and by promotion of the brand to third world countries, USA, Australia, India etcWe all know the players are way overpaid, compared to say someone who works to actually benefit humanity such as a cancer nurse, teacher or street cleaner. Its the culture of celebrity, and the clubs status as a magnet to peoples need to belong to a tribe that keeps it going. At the end of the day its a fucking brilliant game, compulsive, invented in England, but yes its been ruined by the greedy businessmen

I do think this has reached a ridiculous stage.

CHOULO19 24,332
Wouldn't that put certain leagues at a disadvantage? It depends on how you view it. It gives almost any club the possibility of signing any player (if they can afford his transfer fee of course). I don't see that as a disadvantage. Besides I'm not saying they should put the players on minimum wages. I just think we need a something to keep the player wages under control for the sake of the clubs and all of football.Me and RZA were discussing today (in the Gary Cahil thread I think) how the fact that Chelsea gives some players ridiculous wages makes those players more powerful than the manager himself sometimes. Also, I don't see how UEFA will be able to regulate other forms of wages (?) like housing and, for Sneijder, a helicopter. I'm pretty sure there will be lots of ways clubs and players can get around the salary cap, and players will even expect the clubs they are to sign for to do what they can do to get around it. So, I don't really think it will help significantly reduce player power.
