Remember Black Lives Matter? People didn’t mean it. That much is clear now, as the world watches a war that is killing tens of thousands, that has displaced more than 10 million and which is threatening to devour 13 million more through famine – and barely gives it a glance. These are Black lives and it could not be more obvious that, to an indifferent world, they don’t matter at all. With a few honourable exceptions, it’s barely covered on TV, on the radio or in the papers. Most politicians never mention it. There are no mass demonstrations on the streets, no hashtags on social media. Instead, the war in Sudan is out of sight and out of mind – for reasons that say a little about Africa and much more about everyone else. The conflict has raged since April 2023, so there’s been no shortage of time to notice it. Nor is it lacking epic scale. On the contrary, aid organisations say Sudan faces “the world’s worst humanitarian crisis”. AP Media

This year, ex-President Donald Trump is selling his ‘God Bless the USA’ Bibles, calling them ‘my favorite book’. It turns out thousands of copies were printed in the same country that Trump frequently accuses of stealing American jobs – China. A printing company in the eastern city of Hangzhou shipped out nearly 120,000 of Trump’s Bibles to the US in three increments from early February to late March, according to global trade records. The shipments totaled an estimated $342,000 in value, which breaks down to less than $3 for each Bible. Trump is selling them for $59.95 each.

Chelsea opened their Champions League campaign with a 3-2 win against Real Madrid at Stamford Bridge. Goals from Sjoeke Nusken and Guro Reiten put the Blues 2-0 up, only for Alba Redondo to pull a goal back for the visitors before the break. Mayra Ramirez, who played for Spanish side Levante between 2022 and 2024, scored Chelsea’s third and although Linda Caicedo came off the bench to make it 3-2 late on, Madrid slipped to a first defeat of the season.

Israeli settlers attack olive farmers in occupied West Bank Israeli settlers have destroyed about 70 olive trees in Husan village west of Bethlehem in the occupied West Bank, according to the official Wafa news agency, quoting the director of the local village council. In the town of Sebastia, northwest of Nablus, Israeli soldiers attacked olive pickers and farmers, forcing them to leave their land, and seized a tractor from the area. Such attacks have intensified over the years, with hundreds of incidents of settler violence, backed by soldiers, against farmers taking place since the start of the war on Gaza.
