  2. Despite many of the negative reflections of Torres's performance, I actually think that it was one of his better games. He showed a lot of hunger. Straight after the kick off he sprinted forward to get into a position. He contested headers the whole game, battling with Kompany which isn't an easy thing to do. All game he was chasing the ball down and trying to create chances. I'm not a torres fan boy, but when a player shows the hunger like he did i have to give them some credit. I mean, he was isolated most of the game and whenever he managed to get the ball he was pretty much facing their whole back line. I'm not saying he was technically good, in fact his touch and decision making is still truly awful, but at least he showed some hunger which is probably due to the Benitez factor. I think our problem was in the midfield. We were seriously out muscled, particularly in the first half. We really need a solid passer playing deep so we can move forward with pace. Mikel, while strong and good defensively, can't pass for shit, same goes for ramires. Playing short balls to our maestro's in our own half meant that Kompany, Toure etc were able to clean up with ease. Our midfield really needs a Modric or Alonso type player to control the play from deep. Romeu? Perhaps.. I think Benitez will know this and look to sort it out A.S.A.P. Honestly, if Man City were on their game they probably would have put 2 or 3 up on us in the first half alone. Luckily they were terrible but we won't always be so fortunate.
  3. What a game! After a huge night out, staying up till 7.30 in the morning watching my team win the Champions League Final was unbelievable. I joked to my mates earlier on in the season that we would beat Barca and go on to win the UCL with the thought that that was never going to happen. And it did. Astonishing. But the best thing for me is that me and a friend of mine (huge MAN U supporter) made a bet at the very start of the campaign that our respective teams would win the premier league, the loser having to buy the other a case of beer. When it came to the point that we wouldn't win the league he gloated for moths about the case he would eventually get. But when Chelsea got into the final we made another bet, me betting that Chelsea would win, him Bayern - Loser buying a case for the other. Case in point, there was a possibility that I may have had to buy 2 cases and have to listen to endless amounts of gloating and sneering but after everything that has happened this season for both Chelsea and the football world itself, United end up with NOTHING and we end up with 2 trophys - one being the biggest in club football. It's absolutely amazing. This has been without doubt the greatest season of football I have ever witnessed and it just shows that there is no other sport on the planet that can compete with football. I will enjoy everyone of those beers with the thought that United have nothing and we have the trophy we have been dreaming about for years!!!
  4. Drogba was absolutely immense, so was Luiz. Great game
  5. Does Drogba really deserve to be starting this game?? To be honest, he's been playing terrible for a long time, long before he left for ACON, and we saw against Birmingham how useless he was. However, the sad thing is is that Torres has probably been worse (due mainly in my opinion to a complete lack of service) so it's a hard decision. I would start with Drogba because he's a big game player and he motivates the team and might be able to knock the Napoli defence around a bit, however, If I was AVB I would be prepared to bring on Torres as soon as Drogba fades or when the game opens up and Torres can use his pace to get past some tired defenders. AVB must show the balls to change the tactics when the time is right. If the game opens up, then Torres would be more effective than a tired Drogba in my opinion. Lampard also HAS to start, with ramires and perhaps Essien. NO MEREILES!! Cech Ivanovic - Terry/Cahill - Luiz - Cole Essien Ramires Lampard Sturridge Drogba Mata *We all know AVB will play 4-3-3 so there's no point in suggesting a different formation
  6. Anyone notice how bad Drogba was when he came on? yes he might have fired up the team a little due to his personality but other than that he was useless. His inclusion simply led to Luiz and Raul playing long ball after long ball into drogba who wasn't able to really do anything significant with it. The problem today was the midfield. There were so many instances when I saw all three midfielders bunched together, ball watching and then Birghingham switched the play and were on the attack. Also, Luiz and Cahill were doing all the work pushing the ball upfield. Our Midfield had no presence, the passing was frankly horrible and the link up play was as usual, terrible. Everyone slams Torres but honestly, how is he supposed to score if he has to go to pretty much the halfway line to see the ball?? We need strong midfielders who will dictate the game and be creative in the opposition half. MEIREILES CAN NOT DO THIS. Neither can Mikel nor ramires. There are alot of issues within CFC at the moment and I don't think anyone can correctly identify what is really happening. All I know is that hoofing the ball up to an out of form Drogba isn't gonna solve our problems in the long or short term.
  7. Chelsea's play at the moment: Luiz to merelies, to ramires, back to merelies, to Cole, to ramires, out to bosingwa, bosingwa looses the ball...
  8. I think Torres should start, He was one of the most determined players on the weekend which is something we don't see too often and could of scored a great goal off Mata's cross, he also held the ball up well throughout the match and the reason he was quite was because our midfield was ridiculously slow and lacked any penetration. I was extremely frustrated and bemused at the tactics used against Fulham. I mean, sitting back and letting them come at us when they had one striker and a weak midfield was ridiculous, we really needed to press the game a lot more. AVB must have told them to do that so we could hit them on the counter, that's the only justification I can come up with. We were EXTREMELY slow when we had the ball, there was no penetration into their defence, zero through balls to the strikers, Strurridge rarely got the ball in space, Bosingwa's crossing was abysmal. I honestly couldn't believe what I was seeing and am now seriously beginning to question AVBs supposedly brilliant tactical mind. I think Lampard shouldn't be starting this next match, I think he is the main reason why our midfield is so slow. Compare our ball movement to spurs, man city and united and you'll see what I'm talking about. They zip the ball around the field with purpose and accuracy while we pass it slowly and stay on the ball for 5 minutes before eventually playing it back. I'm also not liking the 4-3-3 - it means mata isn't being used effectively, he needs to be sitting behind the strikers, dictating play, more of a david silva role. Lineup: Cech Bosingwa - Luiz - Terry - Cole Romeu Meireles - Ramires Mata Sturridge - Torres
  9. Yeah that was pretty bad and worthy of a yellow, not sure if the referee noticed it. Toure was being a c*** all game but that's what we've come to expect from city players.
  10. Just in regards to the Toure kick and slap, it may sound strange coming from a chelsea supporter but i actually agree with the ref's decision not to book him or anything. not that I agree or support what he did but to be honest it actually wasn't that bad. The kick was a tiny little touch, probably just telling him to get up in a strange sort of way. and the 'slap' to me just looked like he was trying to pat him on the head, as is seen alot in the game. Having played and supported football all my life I know that this sort of thing happens all the time, just get on with it. Toure was trying to upset mata, put him off his game - happens all the time. Mata, being the player he is, showed yaya how football is played by helping chelsea to victory so in the end, he had the last laugh. All this stuff about suspending him is ridiculous in my opinion, it was a big game where emotions were running high - that's what makes football such a great sport. If players start getting suspended for little things like that than the game's going to be destroyed. The type of kicks that are suspension worthy are the ones that our good friend Bosingwa did against yossi a few years back. Now that was disgraceful. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ppxIsei7yBk
  11. "he's more like a 5m player on the field" - couldn't agree with you more
  12. Well at the moment he is a mediocre rotation player... Its not that I don't think Torres isn't a good player, in fact I think he's exceptional when on form, I just don't believe that he's worth 50mill even when at his best. Those price tags should be reserved for players like ronaldo, messi etc., however, due to increasing expenditure in the football world that is changing rapidly I will admit. My point is that Torres shouldn't be judged based upon his transfer fee because the fee was purely ridiculous and only occured due to Roman's stupidity. I mean, do you realistically think that any other owner, besides perhaps City's, would splash out 50 mill on Torres at the same stage that we did? What i'm saying is that we should forget about his price tag and stop thinking that because he cost 50 mill he should therefore be able to play with goalkeepers by his side... because he wasn't worth 50 mill when we bought him, he isn't worth 50 mill now, and I doubt he'll ever be worth 50 mill. Let's just hope that he recaptures his form and becomes the same player that he once was and forget about his price tag.
  13. Just because he cost 50 mill doesn't make him worth 50 mill. While we all appreciate what Roman has done for the club, the fact is that he is a maniac and he obviously desperately wanted Torres for the club meant Liverpool were able to get a massive fee for him. In this case, the fact that we paid 50 mill for him doesn't mean that he should be able to play with anyone under circumstances and perform at his best at all times. He's human. The transfer fee was no fault of his and therefore shouldn't be a precursor for how he should be performing. If we had only paid 20 mill for him, we would still be expecting him to perform at a high level because he has performed at that level before. All this nonsense about him costing 50 mill so therefore he should be the greatest player of all time and be able to do anything is ridiculous. As we've seen, Torres is a confidence player who needs to play in a set up which suits his style. Chelsea probably isn't right for him. In hindsight, we probably shouldn't of bought him. I'm still hoping that he can reach the level we know he's capable of because it would be hugely beneficial for us if he could recapture his form. I just don't think that the fact that ROMAN decided to give Liva 50 mill for him because of his impatience should be the reason for him being sold (If he does) because, to be honest, I'm not sure if he'll ever be worth 50 mill. I mean, he's no Ronaldo is he? We should forget about the price tag when discussing the form of Torres because we'll never be satisfied...
  14. I think Torres should start. He hasn't started in what feels like months and it would be good to give Drogba a rest. I reckon we'll win this comfortably without the inform Drogba and Romeu. Lampard will likely start after the other night. I hope Torres gets a change alongside Mata and Sturridge and performs well. If AVB decides to start Sturridge as the front man, which most say he deserves, then I think we'll all know that Torres isn't a part of AVBs plans. I mean if he can't be trusted to start against Wigan than how can he be trusted against a big team? We shall see.
