My dad is 56, born in 1952, and remembers Thompson being at the club around 1957 when he started going to watch them regularly with his dad before him. I don't think he actually remembers that period of his life, but he was certainly supporting the Chelsea cause at the time. I'll get him to come on tomorrow and talk about the old times again.

The goalkeeper of the team that first brought the title to Stamford Bridge. Obviously not a player who I can remember but my dad assures me he was a brilliant goalkeeper. Only played a handful of games but still an important member of the squad and part of Chelsea history.
RIP
Do bears shit in woods? Of course we need to buy, its clear we're not performing and we need someone to galvanise the team. And after selling Bridgey, there is no excuse not to.
Actually no, in his last season, it was six points, partially due to the fact Petr Cech had a hole in his head and John Terry was out for month after month. With all things considered, he's won more than any other manager in Chelsea history.
If they haven't learned from that yet, they never will. Not conceding those two goals would have meant an away game first in Europe and 2 more points in the league.
Its very harsh. At the start of the season I was confident we would win something, but looking back in fairness, this is his first job in European football. He's learning all the time - albeit mostly the hard way. I'm prepared to give him time.
I believe Philipp Lahm is the best left-back in the world. I also believe he is right footed. Just because Joe Cole is not left footed does not mean he is not effective on the left. Damien Duff played as a right winger for us, despite being left footed.
Am I correct in thinking Kalou's contract expires in the summer? He joined in the summer of 2006 and signed a three-year contract, and as far as I know he hasn't signed an extension. So what should the club do? Offer him a new contract and possibly sell him on in the future, or let him leave in the summer?
I can't stand the ridiculous ways we're conceding goals If we can keep a clean sheet we have every chance. JT and Riccy and Cech are reunited. Thank god.
Well, we have been shite, I can agree with you on that, but look at the league table. Liverpool have been playing pretty well recently but they're just three three points ahead. Whilst we've been dropping points, so have the other teams.
Well I have a brilliant statistical mind that stores all kind of useless, football-related-bullshit, leaving no room for what I'm meant to be learning at school
This is something I'd normally dismiss as bullshit, but its something I've noticed actually. The way he didn't acknowledge the manager suggests to me Scolari has lost Joe Cole's confidence.
I think the way he has handled the Championship shows he can cut it at that level. IMO, he should be loaned out to a lower Premier League team where he is likely to play every game.
Agreed. The cover for Ash is already there in Ferreira and if I'm not mistaken, Mineiro played at left-back at Hertha Berlin for a few weeks whilst their first choice LB was out injured last year.
