There this list is now the best ever http://www.caughtoffside.com/2011/10/18/top-20-current-premier-league-defensive-midfielders/19/ Tiote is rated 2nd there, infront of Yaya, Alex Song and Lucas Leiva Unfortunately number 1 is a lie for me, Parker is a good player but not great. He's just tidy.

Britannia, because i think it was when Ba got his hattrick there.
-
We had AVB last season.......... What games?.
-
But that's not the point, my point is, you can win a game when you didn't deserve too, and struggling, though they probably didn't struggle against QPR'se or Blackburn and those shit teams because who did?. When Newcastle where undefeated Tiote played every single game, when they lost he got injured, that was City game the 3-1. He was out for a bit including our game, came back just for ACON, then got a few minor injuries. But Newcastle wern't the same without him.
-
I wouldn't go that far, but his passing is a lot better now, made a good through ball to Demba Ba last season too, i think that was against Stoke as well actually. 2010/2011 his passing was bad, he had a bad habbit of giving the ball away, but now he's gotten much better. By the way i'd like to ask a question, has anyone here even seen Tiote play?, and i don't mean the one off game i mean actually seen at least 5 games?. If so tell me what games, it wouldn't surprise me at all if Ferguson does end up with Tiote. Because he is an excellent player.
-
They're not shit excuses at all, they where against Blackburn, QPR and Villa, one team was relegated, the other two where just almost relegated. Along with all the managers sacked besides Steve Kean. The stats aren't even that bad, they don't do it as much justice, but i know Tiote is a better midfielder than Mikel, for me he's world class in defensive midfield department, not worldclass overall.
-
Yeah and one draw, when they had 7 draws besides that, that's 7 points against one. When you're newcastle, draws are very vital. They only lost one more game with him than they did without him, considering they played more games with him than without him.
-
Wait you're right Tiote was out for the 1-1 match, it was the 3-0 match where he got man of the match, because i know he just kept bullying Rooney all the time. OOOOF that Spurs loss... jesus, i remember he was missed in that, adebayor got 5 assists in that game didn't he?. Well if you look at the wins at Acon, they beat some very shit teams, and lost heavy against good teams. They played well against Stoke like, Demba Ba got a hattrick that match, Stoke where just shite. Cannot even remember the Everton game.
-
They only just coped. Don't forget Pardew was excellent that season for getting results, i don't think he can do it again next season. They only lost 1 more with him in a shit load more games, but yet won about 4 more with him than without him. So it's a big difference really, and considering the games they played. They wouldn't of gotten a result against Man U, he got man of the match on Sky (even if they are stupid) but he completely ruled that match. And as for Mikel, i know any day of the week Tiote is much better than him.
-
I think, they played like Norwich or some team, and just managed to come out and beat them when they got battered the whole game. It was either Norwich or someone else, West Brom was one of them too, West Brom battered them and they came out with a draw. They played us without Tiote, and we thrashed them 3-0, we where just running through there midfield.
-
But they where playing bad and struggling, i know they scraped some games, but they where struggling a lot, get some of the results up. Because my cousin is a newcastle fan and i remember he was almost crying when Tiote was injured because he wanted Newcastle to get as much points as they can, and when he was injured they where deep in shit. I know they lost some games.
-
Well he was playing bad last season, and is playing bad in pre season so far. He was decent under Robbie but he wasn't as good as people where saying. Though i was impressed in the CL Final.
-
I like to analyze defensive midfielders and watch them closely because it's where i played when i was younger. Mikel for me is way too clumsy and his reactions aren't good enough. His tackling isn't anything spectacular, not that it has to be. Marking can be a problem for him also and his positioning, that's what really winds me up, but Mikel will get better at that with experience definitely. But i doubt he will ever be a great DM. Someone like Tiote and i know i keep going on about him, but he's just a brilliant defensive midfielder, and i would have him over Mikel anyday and he's only one year older than him. Mikel for me would be better if he ditched the strength for pace, because he can be way to slow to react. It's very rarely you see him making that last minute challenge what is vital, or getting that block in, if you've ever noticed. Terry was never blessed with pace but how many times has he done that?. Regardless he's a defender and more in the action, Mikel is usually always staying too further up field and is sometimes out of position when the opposition has scored a goal. But it's just not good enough, i would love him to prove me wrong but really cannot see it at all. And he was too poor against PSG, and i mean too poor, even Essien done a much better job.
-
Because i was going to get arrested for abusing elders. I had to change my identity.
-
I don't get the point though, Mikel is an Akinfenwa defensive midfielder version. I'm not breaking free or anything, I'm only saying it how it's said, if no one's going to actually come out and say he's not shit because they're scared of even the average idiot (I've come across about two so far in this thread) then god help them. I don't get why people are so defensive about it, it's like watching Heskey constantly missing sitters and just denying he has done it.
-
There's more to the post, i edited it because it kept closing off on me all the time.
-
Actually i was talking about how stats can be misleading, then giving an example on Tiote. I thought that was pretty obvious regardless of how big the post was. Put it this way, i actually produced a good argument and he couldn't prove me wrong because he didn't have an argument at all. You know yourself you cannot post a youtube video, especially one from two years ago what lasts about 3 minutes and not highlighting any bad things, and that's because he would have to make a 50 minute video if that's the case. I told him the games i watched and he was awful and couldn't keep up with anyone, and highlighted many of mistakes he's made. He was good under Matteo overall but still wasn't completely sharp. I know the first two games are only pre season but look at him, that's just plain awful, he couldn't even do well against mls players, he was getting easily turned and everything. McEachran was covering for him also. Look at the 2nd goal in the Seattle match, that's one of the worst marking i've ever seen, he doesn't even do a fake shot properly but still manages to get Mikel out the way because Mikels reactions are that bad and he's so damn slow. Then shoots and scores, even if Hilario was fucking awful, Mikel shouldn't allow that shot to get in.
-
That wasn't any evidence at all lmao, a 3 minute video what shows him breaking up play from 2 seasons ago?, brilliant that like. I just proved you wrong also, about how misleading youtube videos are, don't even make me find one about Emile Heskey because i will. Mikel is a shit player, and it's only Chelsea fans what are blinded by it, everyone else knows it. youtube is a terrible source, i watched full games on Hulk instead of videos, and i can assure you he's a good player. That player boro signed Alvez looked like Higuain on youtube, goes to boro for 16 million and scored about 4 goals in 30 odd games. That's just a typical example. I never named two games, i named every match under AVB, except for his first three games, actually leave West Brom out because the full team was just plain awful then. I just don't think he's good enough at all, definitely not a top 6 player and i don't think he ever will be. I bet you any money i watch him more than you, i watched near enough every Chelsea game last season and everyone Mikel played, and i am a favourite of DM's and watch them closely, because it's where i used to play when i played football. And Mikel simply isn't good enough.
-
My argument is the best, you shut your mouth!. Ah, and you said in the Marin thread about 'Robben', stats are very misleading!. I don't even check stats, i watch players, people look at Chiek Tiote and because he gets a yellow card every game they think he's a bad tackler, truth is Newcastle play such a risky game high up field he's always dragging a player back on purpose so he doesn't break through. He's a very clever player, who is an awesome tackler. Someone who is miles head of Mikel. And you can call this sort of a stat, when Tiote was injured and at the african cup of nations, Newcastle lost most of there games, i think they only won twice. Everyone was going on about Demba Ba not being there, load of bullshit, because Tiote got injured before the african cup of nations and they started losing games then.
-
You have to get used to it, it also takes years to update. Sometimes you find stuff out what's official on here or Sky Sports then like a day later it's on the official site.
-
So i prove you wrong, and you can't tackle my argument, then you just say to me keep dreaming?. pathetic poster.
-
Delusional, aye i'm the only one here who has actually even produced an argument. It's a sin to call a Chelsea player shit these days, even when it's true, if we signed Gary Twigg i would get put in a headlock for saying he's not good enough. Well anyway, he's not good enough and that's that, i hope he proves me wrong but very very doubt it.
-
I say we don't talk about him at all, and just see if he turns out really really good because he has no pressure on him. I say we completely forget he's a Chelsea player and not even acknowledge him in anyway shape or form. Even if he's on the score sheet, well actually he isn't on the score sheet... i think this will work brilliantly.
-
No!, not enough!, i want Messi upfront!... and step on it!!!.
-
My excuse if he flops. Still cheaper than Carroll.
