@RhesusReus Yeah but Hazard doesn't work with Brendan. I am surprised he's put up with someone who advocates hope over water for living this long.

Just because Barca, the treble winners, targeted someone, we should sign him as well. Being targeted by Barca after a treble winning season is as sure a sign as there can be of a player being much better than Chelsea XI. I still dread the day we decided not to go after Chygrynskiy. He was a dope defender.

Thanks for the memories Petr. We're never going to forget you. Wishing all the best in your personal and all the worst in your professional life from now on.

@hamad138 I doubt anyone is as quiet as us. Utd have already signed Depay, are close to signing Schneiderlin and Ramos could be going there too. Liverpool have already made 5 signings. Arsenal have signed Cech. Man City look like favorites to get Sterling. In the meantime we've been connected with a hoard of mediocre/washed up players. If things continue like this, I don't think we're going to be able to defend the title next season. We're making the same mistake previous 4 champions made. Being too satisfied with our squad and not getting quality additions next season. @OmldZamani/status/614391372561297408 Juventus apparently are desperate to keep Pogba.

If he comes, Luis is as good as gone. If that's so, he might just be used in a swap+cash deal with Atletico. But who would we take? Griezmann and Koke seem intent to stay at Atletico.

@petre.ispriescu Funny you say that. The only match I didn't watch was the match against Brazil. Against Venezuela, Cuadrado was their most dangerous offensive player. But since we are not going to agree on how he performed- Let's look at the whoscored rating- Against Venezuela- Cuadrado- 6.90 with 5 key passes- more than any other Colombian player. Falcao- 5.87 with 1 key pass and 28 touches which is less than GK Ospina who had 47 touches. Against Brazil Cuadrado- 7.3 with 1 assist, 1 key pass and you agree he was good. Falcao- 6.24 with 0 key passes, 27 touches and low and behold which is again less than Ospina who had 38 touches. Against Peru he did have a poor 1st half but in the withdrawn role in the 2nd half he was good- Cuadrado- 7.3 with 3 key passes. Falcao- 6.16 with 0 key pass, 26 touches and low and behold this is again less than Ospina who had 33 touches. He was so unbelievably s**t against Peru that he was substituted. Before calling me a hater, you should look at yourself. I get that you don't like Cuadrado- neither do I- but at least I give credit where it's due. You are trying to lump Falcao and Cuadrado's in the same bracket when quite clearly Cuadrado has been the better performer by a country mile. Next time, choose your words more carefully.
-
@Blue Lyon It's unfair to put Copa Cuadrado and Copa Falcao in the same bracket. Cuadrado has been one of Colombia's 3 best players, if not the best player. On the other hand, Failcow has been...

He's been special alright... special type of awful.

@Chelsea Legend 11 To be honest, Gotze made that many starts only because Robben and Ribery were out for long periods of time. When all of Robben, Ribery, Lewandowski and Mulller are fit, Gotze doesn't start. Same case with Isco. When CR7, Bale, James, Modric, Kroos and Benzema are all fit, he doesn't start. Varane is totally justified in wanting out since he's been better than Pepe whenever called upon. I can't see Witsel being better than Matic or Fabregas. Although I do agree with your general point that high quality squad players are hard to come by, but Witsel can be that player. And it's not like Witsel won't get game time. We would have Witsel, Matic, Fabregas and Oscar vying for 3 positions. The problem we had this year is Mouriho didn't trust the backup players to come in and perform. He ran the first XI to the ground. And I can't blame him. Would I feel comfortable resting Fabregas with Mikel as his backup against Palace away or even Everton at home? Nope. We need better backups than we have now. Players we can truly trust to come in and not only do a job but be influential.
-
@We Hate Scouse Nope. If Falcao scores 15 this coming season, I would wear a donkey as my avatar but both I and Alex would be delighted. If he doesn't, Alex wearing a donkey wouldn't mitigate the annoyance I would feel at Falcao not performing.
-
@Alex If he scores 15 goals coming season, I will set a donkey as my avatar.

^ Except Costa was coming off a brilliant season for Atletico.

After seeing last night's match.... No.. No... Just No... Noooooooooooooo.....

@Unionjack Who are you looking to replace Mikel and Ramires with? I recognize their contribution hasn't been consistent but they are squad players. They are meant to be like that- good rotation options but far from world class capability. Look at the winners of last 5 champions league winners. All of them had squad/fringe players- 2015- Adriano, Bartra, Rafinha 2014- Probably the only team with only 1 squad player- Illaramendi. But this squad was one of the most expensively assembled ever. We don't have the resources to spend like that in the FFP era. 2013- Van Buyten, Tymoschuk, Gustavo, Pizzaro 2012- Well our whole squad was filled with "mediocre" work horses. 2011- Keita, Adriano, Bojan, Afellay To traverse the whole course of season squad players are a must. These players are far from world class ability- then again, they are not meant to be. They are meant to do a job just as the manager instructs them to do plus not particularly mind if they don't get regular minutes. It is very enticing to think of a situation where we replace Mikel and Ramires with Pogba and Schniderlin but then who would you bench? Having said that I would replace either Mikel or Ramires (not both Mikel and Ramires) with a deep-lying playmaker who would be happy to spend quite a few games on the bench. Gundogan or Schniderlin seems ideal. I do think we need upgrades but we shouldn't look for expensive options that would be unhappy when they are not getting regular minutes.
-
@Unionjack Why are you worried with what Jose has said? I am pretty satisfied with his evaluation of our needs. Combining various sources, interviews so far 2 things are crystal clear- 1. Jose acknowledges that what's not broken doesn't need fixing. This is a title winning squad. There's no need for major overhaul. The priority is to keep the players we have won the title with. 2. He is going to bring in 3 players- a defender (ideally a pacy center back), a midfielder (ideally a proper right winger) and a striker (to provide some competition and backup for Remy and Costa). If the window goes like how Jose has said he envisions it to go, it would be a pretty good window. We would've attained depth and genuine quality on the bench or in the XI to challenge on all fronts. Let me get this straight- it is not sensible to advocate wholesome changes to any squad let alone a title winning squad. I know lots of us would designate selling Mikel, Ramires, Cuadrado, Luis and buying Reus, Schniderlin, Varane, Benteke a desirable window but that happens in FIFA only. A squad needs fringe players like Mikel and Ramires. No matter how much we would like to see 2 world class options for every position- that's never going to happen in the real world.

@Blue Colored Sky With all due respect, that's a fact in your head. Oscar has started against MU, MC and Arsenal in the 1st half of the season. It is during the 2nd half of the season, when Mourinho was opting for someone else. When Oscar was at his best form, there was no dropping him.
-
That commentator shouted goal for 24 seconds. That's more impressive than Cuadrado's turn and cross.
-
I thought he was pretty average compared to his hype. For 80 mil, one should get game changing quality. Pogba isn't anywhere near that level. If we bought Hazard for 32mil, 80mil for Pogba is a joke.
-
@Leif It's not so much that he's bad rather it's about him being not very good. Think of Willian of 1st half of the season. Now, Douglas would be half that player. Player of this caliber is not even going to improve our bench let alone our starting XI.
-
Remy was far better than people give him credit for. He bailed us out during important times in the season- especially against Hull away. As a 2nd striker we can't ask for more than a better goals/minute ratio than our 1st striker. He's definitely deserved more chances than Jose gave him. By some freakish coincidence he seemed to get injured at the exact same time Costa did. I don't think that kind of coincidence will strike us again next season. He will feel even more hard done by if he's not given the chances he deserves next season. Our pursuit of Failcow is, thus, even more baffling. Remy hasn't been anything close to a failure. We should've been looking to get a 3rd striker- not a 25 million pounds striker who's destined to be Torres 2.0. I will support Jose's decision if Failcow signs for us but I feel he's going to be a waste of money. It's quite a killjoy that going into the transfer window, our only plausible signing seems to be an overpriced past his prime flopped striker.
-
@petre That's not necessarily true. John has looked as good as he has because the team adapts to mask a lot of his deficiencies. Matic basically remains glued to the center backs and we also deploy a deep line. All of this is so that Terry's lack of pace is not exposed. This deep line is one of the reasons we find it hard to dominate bigger teams in terms of possession. We are also not too concerned with blocking crosses because heading them or defending is one of Terry's biggest strengths. That sometimes backfires on us as well. The only way Falcao recovers his voodoo is if such adjustments are made centered around him. But I don't think he's worthy of going through all that trouble for.
-
@The Mak Over at the Utd fanbase, some are fearing that Falcao would bang in goals for fun for us and make them look stupid. Being apprehensive is common for all fanbase. Especially after the season KdB has had, I can understand the sentiment. However, for every KdB, there's a Schurrle. So, let's not think about what Bamford might or might not do if he's let go. If Bamford's good enough he will either cement his place like Cortouis did or in case we sell him, we'll happily admit our mistake and bring him back like we did with Matic.
-
And Bale will surely cost more than 63 million euros. I would love to have Reus, but don't think he's moving. And I would rather splash 63 mil on Griezmann than 50 mil on Sterling. Griezmann is better proven, more mature and has a better end product.
-
As I have already said, I am not too fond of this move. But if he takes a massive cut, as is being suggested and Jose thinks he can be our 3rd choice striker, which he seems like he does, I am going to trust Jose.

We need to get over this obsession of "reviving" players. Once a player has fallen from such dizzying heights of performance, he RARELY ever makes it back to anywhere close to that level. Ronaldinho, Ronaldo9, Rivaldo, Torres, Gascoigne, Raul etc. are proof of that. "Oh, he's failing because the system doesn't suit him. X manager doesn't know how to use him. If Y was here, he would be scoring 20 goals a year. He's not scoring but creating spaces with his runs. No, he's failing because there aren't enough crosses. No, it's because the tempo is too slow. I am sure a better set of underwear would revive his from"- I have had enough of these reviving theories for one lifetime with Torres. I have seen managers being blamed for Torres. Last thing I would want is for some fan to say Jose is misusing Falcao. Jose is not god. He can't revive what isn't there. Let's just accept that Falcao is way past his prime. A great player will not look terrible for an extended period of time if he really had it left in him. Sadly, Falcao doesn't. Buying him or loaning him is only going to waste valuable non-HG squad places.
