drakey reacted to CHOULO19 in Stats Back Blues to Beat Spurs
On Wednesday at 19:45 UK time, Chelsea will host Tottenham at Stamford Bridge in what is expected to be a thrilling London Derby. If history and stats are anything to go by, then the Blues are firm favourites to emerge victorious from the clash.
Chelsea come into the match comfortably on top of the EPL table and still undefeated in all competitions despite a minor blip in the form of a goalless draw at the Stadium of Light in their last match. And while the draw itself might not be a worry for Jose Mourinho and his men, the performance itself did raise a few red flags among the Chelsea fans, especially that it was the first time that the team has failed to score this season.
In sharp contrast, Tottenham have generally suffered this season sitting in seventh place, 13 points behind the best team in London and the league, having already lost 5 of the opening 13 matches this season; but despite all that they go into the derby in good spirits after an important win and excellent performance against their direct Europa League rivals, Everton.
But last result/performance aside, Spurs fans would struggle to find a positive indicator going into this match. Historically, they have really suffered against Chelsea in recent years, especially at the Bridge where their last win was by a Gary Lineker goal back in 1990! In fact, since that game, Tottenham have only managed to beat Chelsea 5 times in 57 meetings (all 5 coming at Three Points White Heart Lane, obviously).
History aside, statistics also clearly show Chelsea's superiority at the moment in practically all aspects on the field:
As far as team news go, Jose Mourinho has confirmed in his press conference that only Nathan Ake will be out of the match with his long-term hamstring injury, while Diego Costa will be suspended for the match after picking up his fifth yellow this season against Sunderland.
On the other hand, Spurs' Kyle Walker will also miss the match through injury, while a few other players, including Adebayor, Townsend and Capoue. face a late fitness test.
-Chelsea failed to score in the league for the first time this season on Saturday, drawing 0-0 at Sunderland.
-The Blues have conceded the fewest amount of goals at home this season (3).
-Tottenham have the third best away record in the league, winning three and drawing two matches out of their six away games so far.
-In their last five fixtures against Tottenham, Chelsea have scored 16 goals, averaging over three goals a game.
- Chelsea are undefeated this season in all competitions (W15, D5).
- Their last league defeat came on 19 April - a 2-1 home reverse against Sunderland.
- Chelsea have won 28 of their last 34 home league games (D5, L1).
- Jose Mourinho's side have kept 11 clean sheets in their last 14 Premier League home matches.
- Didier Drogba has scored three goals and assisted four more in his last eight league games against Spurs.
- Tottenham have lost just one of their last six Premier League away games (W3, D2).
- They have won three of their last four league games, losing the other.
- Spurs and Chelsea have both won the most points from losing positions in the league this season, both nine.
-Only Yaya Toure (14) and Steven Gerrard (12) have scored more Premier League goals from midfield in 2014 than Christian Eriksen (11).
-Roberto Soldado ended a run of 627 minutes without a league goal against Everton on Sunday.
So, in conclusion, can Spurs record their first ever Premier League victory at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday? Most probably not, according to statistics and historical facts.

GC's former manager was just talking on Sky about his time at Bolton. He said Man City had bid 17 million and some player for GC the season before. Chelsea got him for £6 million. He agreed to join us but still asked if he could play for Bolton one more time. I think he said it was at Everton and gary scored the winner. You've got to admire him for that.

drakey reacted to BlueLion. in Baggies battered as Chelsea cruise clear at the top
Chelsea opened up a seven-point lead at the top of the Premier League with a comprehensive defeat of West Bromwich Albion.
Diego Costa gave the Blues the lead after just eleven minutes with a smart finish as he volleyed home from Oscar's whipped delivery, whilst Eden Hazard made it 2-0 with a smart finish from Cesc Fabregas' well-worked short corner.
Claudio Yacob was then dismissed before half-time for an excessively forceful challenge on Costa, whilst Ben Foster put in a man-of-the-match performance to keep the scoreline respectable.
The result moves Chelsea seven points ahead of second-placed Southampton, who play Aston Villa on Monday evening, and also maintains their eight-point advantage over champions Manchester City, who came from behind to beat Swansea on Saturday afternoon.
For the first time in the club's history, Chelsea have gone twelve games unbeaten at the start of a league campaign, and this was one of the more comfortable afternoons in that run for José Mourinho's men.
The second half was played at walking pace against the ten men of Albion, who were left chasing shadows for much of the game. Whilst on another day the margin of victory would have been greater, this was an absolute drubbing in all but scoreline as Thibaut Courtois was criminally underemployed in the Chelsea goal.
Yacob's dismissal killed the game as a contest, with Chelsea allowed to play the game at walking pace against a packed Albion defence. Whilst Mourinho may well have gone for the kill, the Blues boss certainly will have had one eye on Tuesday night's match away at Schalke in the Champions League. With that taken into account, it is understandable that they perhaps took the foot off the gas a little after the interval.
The tone of the game was set when Ben Foster had to make a stunning early save with his foot to somehow divert away John Terry's goalbound effort, but there was hardly a wait for the opening goal as Costa expertly chested and side-foot volleyed home Oscar's devilish delivery from the wing.
Costa then saw an effort kiss the outside of the post as Branislav Ivanovic's deflected cross found its way to the feet of the Spain international, and the former Atletico Madrid man had another effort blocked as he continued to dominate a ragged Albion backline.
Hazard then continued his own fine run of goalscoring form when, from Fabregas' intelligent short corner, the Belgian was able to capitalise on hesitant defending as he lashed his shot through Foster's legs via a slight deflection.
The red card for Yacob came on the half-hour as Costa, in possession of the ball on the edge of the Albion penalty area, was unceremoniously scythed down by the Argentine midfielder.
On closer inspection, the tackle wasn't a particularly bad one from Yacob, but there was a hint of two-footedness about the challenge and the excessive force demonstrated by the player was perhaps what warranted the decision in the mind of referee Lee Mason.
Immediately after the interval, Nemanja Matic volleyed wastefully over when well-placed inside the six yard box. From another short corner, Oscar was able to once more whip the ball towards the unmarked Serb, who failed to control his finish and lazily lashed over with Foster's goal at his mercy.
Hazard was denied one-on-one by Foster's trailing leg in what was truthfully the last obvious goalscoring opportunity for the Blues, who, if being hypercritical, can be criticised for over-elaborating their play at times, and a host of late substitutions from Mourinho - with Didier Drogba, Loic Remy and Ramires all late replacements - only adding to this second-half snooze fest.
But, with a tough midweek assignment on Tuesday against Roberto di Matteo's Schalke - who today made it four wins from four home matches under the Italian's tutelage with a 3-2 defeat of in-form Wolsburg - Chelsea can be forgiven for cruising to a comfortable victory that has shades of a similar victory over the Baggies during Mourinho's first spell in charge.

I woke up to go to the toilet in the middle of the night and looking out of the window I noticed a bloke who lived further down the road sneaking into my next door neighbour's garden.
Suddenly my neighbour came from nowhere and smacked him over the head with a shovel, killing him instantly.
He then began to dig a grave and I watched, horrified, as he buried him and shovelled the earth over him.
Still in shock I got back into bed.
My wife said, "You're shaking dear, what's up?"
"You'll never believe what I've just seen," I said, "That bastard next door still has my shovel."
