The thing about Willian is that he is an awful decision maker, but how can you say he is sluggish ON the ball? He is our second best dribbler in the team, he is freakin amazing whan he is the ball at his feet. He had a very very poor match against City, usually he is shite in the last third of the pitch with his bad final touches and finishes, but against City he just had a bad game, all-around. Very bad passing and I think he got fouled that much because he was way too slow with his thinking, he held the ball too much and cost us a great deal of counter attacks. I think it's fair to say that Schurrle provides us exactly the things Willian missses in his game (great attacking movement, finishing, aerial threat) whilst Willian gives us exactly what Schurrle is missing (tracking down players, better dribble, better touch on the ball). This what makes Willian a very important player for bigger games and that what makes Andre such a vital player for the smaller ones where we need to attack and create more in front of goal. If Willian improves his cons he will become a real world class player, so as Schurrle. In the meantime, I'm personally very happy we have these two great players and such depth in the squad, and I think you should be too. Stop moaning and think about what other teams have in these positions.

Why are you trying to assess "how far we've come" by our performance (not to mention that it's just one game but never mind that) against a big club? Last year we beat Liverpool and City home and away and still ended up 3rd. For ME, our real test this season is to overcome the smaller sides, not City, Liverpool and Arsenal, but the likes of Sunderland, Palace and Villa who cost us the title.

Can't understand what is so funny about it. In today's standarts, there are only a few better than him. IMO he was the best center-back in the PL last season and was preferred by Mourinho over a 50M pound defender. Can't be that bad...
-
I don't even know how to start commenting on these two phrases... How could you possibly say that our defense was our weak point last season when Torres and Eto'o were our main strikers?! And how in the world can one understand this second phrase you wrote, how you managed to connect Luiz to this? And if you are saying what I think you are saying - that Cahill isn't a world class defender, well, I don't have anything much to say to you, I really don't. Get a grip.
-
The only thing that I was concerned about was the fact that Mourinho really underestimated them, starting Drogba was nice but it was the wrong choice, both for the team and for the fans who came to the bridge today (really poor support tonight btw, they outsang us hard just like last year)... Nevertheless, Remy or Costa should have started and Drogba could of come on after we were comfortably winning. Bad dicision by Jose. But who gives a damn, our real concern is City and the league, not this group of death. Roll on Sunday!

Didn't make myself clear I suppose... Matic, Ramires and Fabregas in front of them.
-
Oh, the irony... Calm down man, some of us live in different fucking continents... At least you have the OPTION of going to a game...
-
No chance in hell that Mourinho is going to play this Matic-Cesc duo in big games. I'm sorry but IMO Fabregas does lack that defensive discipline which Neville and Carragher were talking about, and I'm not criticizing him because he offers so much in attack, but this is only good for games against sides such as Swansea or Aston Villa. We saw Mourinho starting with Ramires at Everton and we will keep seeing him making this exact same decision as the season goes on, because there is no way Matic and Cesc can control or defend against a team like City. And to be honest, we look at our best when Ramires plays. I criticized him A LOT last season but he really deserves credit for his start of the season, three in midfield suits him much better than only two like last season.
-
Even though he didn't play in the exact same position, I honestly think Ramires replaced Oscar in the best way possible against Everton, or in other words - Oscar most probably couldn't have contributed more than him. And yeah, he even scored (and assisted!!!)... If he keeps it up Oscar may well find himself on the bench in games of this manner.

That tweet from Cech What an absolute LEGEND this guy is, I really adore him! He came to be a "silent hero" in an era of players like Didier and Lamps. He gave so much for this club and not a single complaint, I can't remember him wanting to leave or something close to it in 10 years in which he has served this club. I am really glad he decided to stay even though he had every right to pursue first team football which he could easily find elsewhere. I truly believe he can help the team, even if not directly on the field. I wish the fans chanted his name more, he deserves it.
-
He was our best player in pre-season. What are you talking about?
-
I believe that Matic's "poor" game agains Everton was a circumstance of the fact that we played a very very open game, and because Fabregas and Ramires offered almost nothing defensively... How many times did we see Matic single handedly trying to stop Everton attacks? Matic performs best when we need to sit back and counter attack (City away for example) and he struggles a bit when we need to dominate possession and/or pass the ball quickly. Yes, he is no Xabi Alonso but I think he can get better at it, with time. Nevertheless, Matic is the best defensive midfielder in the PL after Yaya Toure, he is that good and as that important for us. I agree with Mourinho about what he said and I think that not many players can contribute to our game in the same fashion as Matic has done since the day he arrived. His long passing, his tackling, vision and areal dominance are second to none in our squad and he is absolutely irreplaceable (not if you don't have a player like Yaya or Kroos on the bench). Personally, I don't think he is underperforming. Yes, he misplaced a few passes against Everton but he still was immense and broke up a countless number of attacks, not to mention his goal and magnificent assist. He will need more time to build a full understanding with Fabregas in midfield and to accommodate our new style of play. Still, I think that he is probably one of our three best and most important players, and that his transfer was probably the best Jose made in this term - to get a player of this quality for that amount of money is amazing and absolutely praiseworthy.

Yeah, perhaps I shouldn't have Sorry, long day... The thing is that I truly understand what people like Tomo are saying, but you know, it's now like I hate Bosingwa or Ramires, I do critisize them (and Torres) but I don't feel hate towards them, like many of the fans do towards Torres. The goal at Barcelona is not an excuse, it's just a way for me to try and explain my point of view about this player and the way I feel about him.
-
Belgiannutt, Look, I understand where you are coming from and I will probably won't be able to change your mind but I will explain myself and we will agree to disagree at the end. Personally, I never got the feeling that Torres is being lazy or not working for the team. Doesn't matter how shit he was, I didn't have the feeling he is doing a "Balotelli" on the pitch, walking or something like this. Yes, he was bad, again, no doubt about it, but IMO he never gave up and I understand if you don't agree with me, it's legitimate. My last post was exaggerated but it was just because I can't stand people that call him cancer or whatever, it's just wrong. I'm no "Torres lover" and I think he has to go, but yet again, you are not really trying to understand my point. Torres is not a "special" player for me because of his great football achievements for us, far from it. Actually, as everyone agree, he was shit for us and will always be remembered as such, but I will never forget how happy I was when he scored against West Ham or when he scored that goal agains Barcelona (and if you say you were not buzzing after that goal you are lying). He is a special player because I will remember him and all the controversy that surrounded him. And again, I think he didn't embarrassed us, I truly don't. I don't care how shit a player is if he really tries on the field, if he runs and if he wants to be better. And again... you may not agree with me, but that's ok.

Most of you are utter ignorant morons, and I'm really sorry to put it this way, but you just are. You really should be ashamed of yourselves because this is no way to treat a person and more importantly - a Chelsea player. This guy gave what he could most of the times he played for us and even though he had really difficult times as a blue, he never gave up. He even repaid us a little bit with real huge amounts of joy and happiness, and if there is one fucking person here that denies the fact that his goals at Nou Camp and Amsterdam were absolutely immense for us and that they are probably up there with the best goals we ever celebrated, he should be banned from being a Chelsea fan or something... I mean, we all know that Torres is a failure and that he and Chelsea never clicked from day one, but no one will ever forget how happy we all were when he finally scored that goal agains West Ham, or any goal at his enduring unsuccessful Chelsea career... For me he will always be a special player and I will never hate him like some of you apparently do. If there is someone you should really be pissed on is the man who decided to bring Torres to Chelsea, because he was the one who made this mistake, he and his fellow idiots of our board who payed 50 fucking million (!!!) pounds for a player that was already on his way down. So don't be so hard on Torres because he never ashamed our shirt and our club, he was and still is just a player that is not good enough for us, and this happens in football.

Just for those who are bitching about the fact we play on Monday - in the last 4 occasions, the team which started its season on Monday night eventually won the league. It has happend twice to City and twice to United. So calm down

What were the fans singing for this last five minutes?
-
Stunning performances by Eden and Cesc. I think this team is going to be something special later on this season. Matic, Cesc, Eden, Oscar/Willian, Schurrle and Costa on the same pitch is something special when you really think of it.

Fenerbahce 0-2 Chelsea/Chelsea 0-1 Besiktas
Footballover replied to Jase's topic in Chelsea Match Chat
These kind of games are so annoying IMO... They are good for the fitness of the players but they offer absolutely nothing competitively wise. You can't really prepare yourself to face two completely different oppositions in one game, especially if the second one is fresh and you are not... The Besiktas game and the "loss" tell me nothing, glad we were good in the first 45 and delighted with Diego's goal. Next. BTW - Bruno Alves is a disgraceful cunt. Always hated this player. -
Barbara, I get your point and I agree with it partly, but I have to say that you are forgetting one very important and critical issue - last season, Hazard was our only real "executer" in terms of attacking play (not to mention the fact that he needed to defend on top of it all)! The first few months were really problematic and he was actually pretty awful to say the truth, but when he clicked into gear somewhere aroung November he was amazing, as you mentioned. It is a bit simple to say it but with time, teams understood how to stop him and we were practically fucked when that happened. The point is - it's really not fair to judge him conclusively because at times last season, our strategy was to give him the ball and hope for the best. This season though, he will have much much more freedom and help with Luis coming in to loosen him from the defensive job, Costa and Fabregas who should take some of the attacking burden on themselves, and assuming Schurrle, Willian and Oscar will improve, we can all expect him to be better, and I personally believe he will step up to the task.
-
I can't understand this ultimatum, you think that this year will be the last in which he will progress? He is only 23, he is still so young and so inexperienced and he may reach his peak only at something like 25, maybe even later. Players such as Ribery, Robben and even Malouda (a beast at his prime) reached their summit at a very progressive age for example. If you think that Eden will become a Ronaldo v2, I might disappoint you - well, he will most probably won't. I really dought that Hazard will score as much as the Portuguese because he is not a born finisher, both because he lacks certain qualities that great finishers have - shooting and heading especially, but more importantly because he takes different aspects of the game on himself. I agree that he should shoot more but I don't think he needs to become obsessive with it, he can contribute a great deal to the team even if he doesn't score 40 goals a season. Hazard is a fantastic player already and I personally don't worry about him that much. He will become an even more remarkable player in the future and will be remembered as one of the best even if he won't reach the hights that Ronaldo and Messi reached. If there is a player that we need to worry about it's Oscar, but that's a different discussion...

Oh, c'mon, some of the posts here are so radical it is even amusing in a certain way... Let's sum it up - this situation is unpleasant in any way you look at it, I really don't think that there is even one Chelsea fan who is really happy with Lampard moving to City, can we agree on that? Ok. The second thing is, like someone wrote here a few pages back, fans are really an emotional bunch and the main idea is that you can't truly change one's feelings about this kind of things, it's just what you feel (or don't feel...) and I think that the more you quarrel with each other, the worst it gets. Anyway, you have to chill out and drink a glass of water before the next extreme and radical post you are about to write. Franky is going to be a City player for six monts, it's a fact. You can only get used to it as the time passes and learn how to live with that, doesn't matter what you feel. The other thing that is also certain in 100% is that this move of his will not, in any way, affect Lampard's image as a true Chelsea legend, and if you don't understand it now, you will later.

Just wanted to say hi to you all! I read here a lot in the past but I started posting only yesterday... I want to say that this forum is fantastic and that the moderators are doing an amazing job sustaining it, so keep it up. There are some really great members here, especially the English lads, I just love reading your posts! I am, as you can see, an Israeli, and I support Chelsea probably 10 years now... I hope I can contribute to the forum and I also hope you will enjoy reading my posts. This is it, carefree

That's right, along with Costa, Filipe Luis and others...
