Yes most of his defensive problems stem from his pace, his ridiculous desire to play left wing when we are in the opposition half (and so is fucked when we get countered) with brain fart tackles. Slow, gung ho attack leaves space behind and brain farts. Outside of that though hes clearly our best left back. When hes focused he does well enough in the big games. Theres plenty of big games where hes far from a defensive liability. Even at United, city and liverpool. Good in the air too. His major problem is consistency. Did I mention he has brain farts? I agree in so far as most of our chances came from stupid mistakes by City but I think we should keep in mind how bad our midfield was in terms of the quality we have in the squad. When billy came on and spread that ball to pedro, that's what we miss when we play mount and Barkley. In future head to heads though, we all expect the team to be different. So I think our lack of creating clear cut chances falls on the midfield, but mount is a different player. We are going to have to keep 4-5 players steady for the first few games and then slowly rotate through once everyone is match sharp. Theres no way we'll get consistent results if we swap 9 players every match. But if were are throwing away the cup we may as well use it to build fitness for the test of the squad. From west ham onwards we should be changing 4-5 at a time MAX. It's been 3 months of no football. We've essentially played two matches in a preseason. We should have 1 or 2 matches left before the fatigue really accumulates. By far the better team? I dont know about that mate! Better chances sure but they had such control for large portions of each half and had their own chances. Plus sterling hit the post.
