We won't be Blue for long - Joe Cole Joe Cole is confident that Chelsea's first taste of defeat in a major final will make Avram Grant's squad even stronger in the long term. Chelsea's Carling Cup final loss at the hands of Tottenham was the first time the squad of players put together by Grant and former coach Jose Mourinho had experienced such disappointment. But Cole, left out of the starting line-up to accommodate new £15million striker Nicolas Anelka, believes the setback can only help them become tougher. Cole said: "We are disappointed but we have got to pick ourselves up for the next game. "We will go away and digest this game but it is disappointing for everyone at the club to lose in the final. We've not experienced that before as a group and it can only make us stronger now. "We will wash ourselves of this game and concentrate on the next one. Tottenham are a very good side and give them credit for winning. But we have to move on."

No Blues deal for Barca star - Agent Spanish starlet Marc Muniesa has not agreed a deal to leave Barcelona and sign for Chelsea, his agent has confirmed. The 15-year-old is rated as one of the most promising youngsters at the Nou Camp - but Barca are again fearing that he could be tempted away by the lure of the Premier League. Barca have been hard hit by raids on their youth academy in recent seasons with the likes of Cesc Fabregas and Gerard Pique - to name but two - spirited away by Arsenal and Manchester United respectively. Now Chelsea, who only last week caused furore in Italy when they agreed a deal for Reggina's 15-year-old Vincenzo Camilleri, are now said to be making moves to land Muniesa. However, Muniesa's representative Gines Carvajal has insisted nothing has been agreed with Chelsea. "This is only a rumour because no one from Chelsea has presented a formal offer for the chance of a professional deal," said Carvajal in Sport. Barca sources insist that they want Muniesa, who turns 16 in late March, to stay and are confident of persuading him to remain in Catalunya. Carvajal added: "We are calm, we know that at the end of the season a deal will be done."

Sheffield Wednesday boss Brian Laws has confirmed a deal is close for Chelsea striker Ben Sahar.Laws said: "Ben Sahar is a player we have been talking about and he's a very talented young player. "We're going to talk to the player before anything is done because he is young and new to the country, so probably does not know too much about Sheffield Wednesday. "Chelsea have agreed to the move in principal, so it should go ahead if the player is happy with the move." Sahar, who played on loan for fellow Championship club QPR earlier this season, is Israel's youngest full international after making his debut aged 17.

Reggina fume: Chelsea lured Camilleri with helicopters, money, power Reggina are fuming with Chelsea as the London giants wrap up the signing of Italy U16 defender Vincenzo Camilleri this week. Reggina president Lillo Foti snapped: "Another talent of Italian football has been removed from our world. This happened because of negotiations initiated by a club, Chelsea, in a time that should not allowed because the footballer had not reached sixteen years of age. "Camilleri - despite an invitation from the club - refused to participate in official games, as he preferred to go to London, accompanied by his mother and an agent to reach a financial agreement with Chelsea. Everything that has happened has done so outside the national and international rules." Foti then revealed: "To reach their goal, Mr Frank Arnesen and Carlo Jacomuzzi, using the helicopters of Abramovich, have landed in an area not within their jurisdiction, the Sports Centre of Sant'Agata and have ransacked it, putting on a display of power and money, compared to the daily work and sacrifice of Reggina." Foti says he intends to take the case to UEFA president Michel Platini, no great friend of the Premiership, and other official bodies.

Chelsea's FA Youth Cup quarter-final opponent is now known, as Port Vale surprised Tottenham with a 1-0 win at Vale Park last night. It won't be the first time we come up against Port Vale in the competition. Our fourth round exit to the Valiants back in 2003 remains fresh in the memory, and Paul Clement's side will be eager to avoid that fate as they seek a semi-final place. Five years ago, Chelsea's youth team were eliminated 2-1 at Vale Park, with a side that featured schoolboys Adrian Pettigrew, Anthony Grant and Jimmy Smith. Another schoolboy, Dean Sylvester, not taken on full-time scored the goal. Then youth coach Steve Clarke was unimpressed, saying: 'It was disappointing to go out because it was a game we could have won. We sat back too much and gave them the initiative.' It was a memorable night for Vale fans, as 1,958 fans attended the game, a figure just overshadowed by the 2,104 who saw Jonathan Crompton head the only goal of the game. Three of the four quarter-final fixtures have now been finalised, with just the Charlton Athletic v Swindon Town fifth-round tie to be played. Elsewhere last night, holders Liverpool crashed out in extra-time at Sunderland, beaten 5-3. Manchester City also progressed as Daniel Sturridge, who scored for the first team at Sheffield United in the FA Cup proper recently, scored twice in a 4-2 win at Bristol City. City now travel to Plymouth Argyle in the quarters, while Sunderland play the winner of Chartlon and Swindon. This evening, Carlisle United entertain Aston Villa at Brunton Park in the first quarter-final tie. It is the first time Chelsea have reached this stage of the competition since 1997/8, when John Terry was in the side. The date of Chelsea's trip to Port Vale will be announced soon.

Jimmy Smith, our young midfield starlet, has returned to Chelsea. After being on loan at Norwich City since the start of the season, Jimmy has returned to squad life at Stamford Bridge. Any suggestion that Norwich might be allowed to further extend his loan period appears to have been refused whilst Chelsea assess their playing staff after suffering an unprecedented run of injuries coupled with the absence of their African stars. Unfortunately, Smith`s loan period at Carrow Road wasn`t as fruitful as the time he spent at Loftus Road last season courtesy of a nasty foot injury picked up early in his spell. We here at Vital Chelsea would like to welcome him back to Stamford Bridge.

tribalfooball.com - December 30, 2007 Chelsea superkid Sergio Tejera admits Arsenal's Cesc Fabregas is his inspiration. Tejera was snapped up by Chelsea last year from Espanyol and said: "I hope to make my debut someday in the first team. You see Cesc at Arsenal and think that it can be you. If he has done it, you also can do it. "He is an example to follow. In addition, some of my (Chelsea youth) teammates already have done it and I came here for this. I am convinced that it will happen. "I have no regrets coming here. The only problem is that you're not considered for Spain because the coaches won't come to watch you. But I wouldn't change a thing, I am very lucky."

A team of young players from Chelsea's Academy is currently in the United States and has played its first game in Disney's Soccer Showcase, America's most prestigious youth football tournament. The opposition were Chicago Sockers for a fixture that saw the Chelsea Under 16 side draw 1-1. Chelsea are the Official Professional Football Club of Disney's Wide World of Sports, a long-term partnership that is aimed at promoting football at all levels in the United States. The Academy side are competing against youth teams from the Atlanta, New York and Chicago areas at Disney's Wide World of Sports complex in Orlando, with the game against the Sockers taking place on Thursday. The young Chelsea players controlled play throughout the game but were rewarded with just a single goal from Frank Nouble (pictured courtesy of Disney/Preston Mack), scored in the 64th minute. Precise midfield passing and good movement allowed Nathan Livings and Billy Knott to cause problems for the Socker defence as Chelsea enjoyed 64 per cent of the possession in the first-half. However despite the positive play, the team didn't capitalise upon our openings with Nouble and Harry Roubins missing the target on several occasions. Andrew Spencer and Billy Clifford managed to quell Chicago's threat with impressive tackling in midfield and the side from England constantly looked dangerous down the wings. It was this type of move which ultimately led to the first goal as Nathaniel Chalobah sped down the right and crossed to Nouble who, from the edge of the box, turned and fired a shot past the helpless Chicago keeper. Chicago's first chance didn't come until the 69th minute when they forced Harry Isham to make a fantastic left-footed save. The Americans equalised on 74th minutes when Tim Kreutz held off Rohan Ince's challenge and scored with a low shot. Despite the draw, the manager of the Chelsea side and former first team star, Eddie Newton, was pleased with the performance. 'It's important for us in the Academy to give young players different experiences and take them out of their usual comfort zone,' explained Newton. 'It's good for us to see how they react in this type of tournament environment with multiple matches over a short period.' Chelsea's next fixture is at 2.30pm (US time) today when we face Atlanta's Concorde Fire Elite for our second group match. On Saturday at 8.30 am, we play NY Hota Academy 91.

tribalfooball.com - December 12, 2007 Dinamo Zagreb midfield ace Luka Modric has warned Chelsea about their plans for him should he accept a move to Stamford Bridge. He said: "I've read in papers that Chelsea would sign me and then loan me to Dutch side PSV. That's nonsense. "I do not know anything about that. But the transfer period is a long one and we will see. My wish was always to move to Spain. I'd like to leave this winter."
