We went for a long weekend and spent most of that fairly intoxicated but if i remember correctly theres kind of a square with some main nightclub and a Australian bar. But with the euro now and all that- its probs not much different.Theres a good few cheap bars around, pretty easy to spot. One thing i would recommend (which isnt typical Amsterdam) is a tour round Ajax. Its easy to get to, you just need to take a couple of trams and its near enough to the station. Its impressive.
