Chelsea chief executive Peter Kenyon has rejected reports linking the club with a move away from Stamford Bridge.

Reports over the weekend suggested Chelsea had decided to quit their home at Stamford Bridge and build a new stadium in Battersea.

Kenyon admits they have considered moving to a new location, but insists everyone at the club would prefer to expand Stamford Bridge's capacity.

"We have always wanted to see if we could expand Stamford Bridge and until that's fully exhausted there are no immediate plans [to move] and in fact an immediate plan would be five or seven years away anyway," Kenyon told Sky Sports News.

Evaluating

"At the same time we have been evaluating is there anywhere else in the locality, but looking for a 20 acre site close to Chelsea is never going to be easy.

"We get approached all the time - this is no more than one of those approaches.

"To say we have got plans or we are committed to moving away from Stamford Bridge is just incorrect.

"Stamford Bridge is unique in its location, it is the home of Chelsea and it would have to be very, very special to take us away from there."

It does seem that if we really can't expand then we will move.

I just don't see the need to move, Stamford Bridge is still a classic old English stadium, there would be no memories or emotion inside a new stadium.

True, but then memories and emotion are built...

We are getting to a point with all the clubs around us moving to bigger and better stadiums that something is going to have to be done if we are to move forward as a club. But this has gone on for a very long time now.

I' d only seriouly consider it if there were reclining seats, and all that noisy singing was stamped out. There needs to be better wines, and decent canapes, and prices need to be sufficiently increased, to keep out the riff raff.
