Did Kaka option release Sheva?

There is continuing confusion over how much Milan paid to sign Andriy Shevchenko, raising doubts Kaka might have been involved.

When the announcement that Sheva was returning to San Siro was made at 18.00 on Saturday, both clubs declared "the details are confidential."

The transfer had collapsed over the past few days with Adriano Galliani pointing out Chelsea were refusing to release the striker on loan to the same club that had earned £30m for him two years ago.

It had been reported Chelsea requested a loan deal that had to be followed by a permanent move worth £13m.

None of the sources close to either club have emerged with a theory on how they managed to resolve the issue.

The contract will be signed on Monday after a medical and then the details might emerge, but it still doesn't answer why there has been so much secrecy.

There is the rumour that Chelsea's £100m chase for Kaka could be involved, as the only way for Milan to gain leverage would be to include an option on the Brazilian.

However, should Kaka not wish to leave San Siro at any stage of his career, then the option would essentially be worthless.

If the 2007 Ballon d'Or does opt to walk away, then the option would give Chelsea first choice, thereby destroying any chance of Real Madrid pipping them to the post.

Of course this could all be just a theory and the truth may well be that President Silvio Berlusconi agreed to shell out the extra cash at the end of the season just to have Sheva back in his squad.
