Daniel Pappoe's loan spell at Colchester has been cut short and the centre-back has now returned to Chelsea.

Pappoe arrived at the Weston Homes Community Stadium in the summer on a loan deal which was set to run until January.

But the 19-year-old has struggled with injury and failed to make an impact at the League One club, managing just two substitute appearances and being sent off on his debut in a 2-2 draw at Bradford in mid-September.

U's boss Joe Dunne told the club's official website: "I'd like to thank Dan for his time with us, as well as Chelsea for letting us have another of their talented youngsters.

"He was extremely unlucky with his injuries and it was best for all parties for him to return to Chelsea."
