Michel Platini has blasted Sir Alex Ferguson for suggesting Manchester United were being penalised by dropping into the Europa League.

After his side were dumped out of the Champions League against Basle on Wednesday night, Ferguson was left facing up to a run in Europe's second competition.

However, he has now sparked a row with UEFA president Platini, who has accused the United manager of showing a lack of respect
