  1. I don't disagree with that. The player we've never replaced is Makelele, but I don't think there's another one out there. Busquets is probably the closest, but it seemed for a time we didn't really know who to go for. We've only really recently replaced Robben and Duff with Hazard and a couple of others. My view is that we actually potentially have a phenomenal squad coming up. The club things the same and they want a manager who can take them on for the next 5 years minimum. They don't want a potential weak link and that's how they saw Robbie. It's why they covet Guardiola.
  2. There was a point in time when we booed Drogba for diving too much. He was actually going down rather than going for chances. And watch that Barcelona home game. Cheating? No. Gamesmanship? Absolutely.
  3. He's the Chelsea manager now. It's going to be that way for the next 6 months in all likelihood. Maybe you should take your dignity and go on a sabbatical for a few months like Guardiola did. The guy said some things to give his own fans a hard-on and they've come back to bite him on the arse. You might have been offended by them but we've got to support him now because he's running our club.
  4. The other 'obvious' thing is that he is the Chelsea manager and that isn't going to change, so why not start backing him rather than telling him to fuck off and labelling him a cunt. It might make you feel better, but it doesn't help this club in any way whatsoever.
  5. Well he's going to need a job, so he needs to impress potential employers. He's also got a lot to prove after his experience at Inter. Not sure if he could be more motivated.
  6. Yes, because he's our manager and I want him to do well. Ergo, I support him in his role. I don't particularly care for him as a person but he's Chelsea manager and that's enough for me to support him in his time at the club. I agree we should go for someone long term, but that second season with Ancelotti was pretty poor in all honesty. Mourinho set the bar extremely high and we've never truly replaced him. He's still 'our manager' in a very weird way. We all know who Roman truly wants to be Chelsea manager and it wasn't ever going to be Robbie.
  7. He's agreed to become the Chelsea manager. Call me old-fashioned but that used to be enough to deserve my support.
  8. If we ignore the fact that he's Rafa Benitez and he said rude things about us when managing a rival club, he is a Champions League and La Liga winning manager who has something to prove to people who have written him off. On paper, that doesn't seem like the worst person in the world to have in charge. It's becoming strange because he is Chelsea manager so I do feel defensive over him. I love this club too much not to be enthusiastic about what me might turn out like on Sunday. I know I'll get stick for this, but I'm more hopeful for the game against Man City on Sunday than I was a few days ago. It might just be because he's new and shiny and a little unknown, but I think we might get a result.
  9. Seeing him in that Chelsea tracksuit....I didn't throw up. He looked like a bloke in a Chelsea tracksuit. He wasn't the devil and he really doesn't have enough hair to hide a 666 mark.
  10. This. I just want a week to go by with no controversy, no OTT media coverage and just a quiet, uneventful home win. So who've we got on Sunday again?
  11. He gets them playing for one another, except for when he doesn't and their form collapses. He's a chancer and I'm pretty sure Roman would never go for him in a million years. I agree. This is what this club does. It's ridiculous sometimes, but it's never boring and let's be honest this isn't the first time we've had weird decisions made regarding managers. We did it with Gullit, with Mourinho, Ancelotti and now Di Matteo.
  12. So you object to Rafa, but would accept Redknapp? Redknapp is a tactically naive moron.
  13. No disciplinary action against Clattenburg. Mikel charged by FA with misconduct for post-match incident.
  14. He knows we're unhappy and he doesn't care. He's doing what he think is best for the club and when he's done that in the past, I've had some pretty big smiles on my face. No-one is happy with this situation, but I don't want an even worse one in six months. Roman's long-term plan is to have Guardiola, a world-class young team and a new stadium. He's accepting some short-term discomfort to get there.
  15. Personally, I'd rather look forward to us being in the Champions League with a new manager and subbing Hazard off in the second half and bringing on Islam Feruz. The bad thing happened. All you can control is how you react to that. Personally I'd rather not hope that our future is sunk to placate some misplaced sense of 'dignity'.
  16. No one is asking you to like him. It would just be nice if we didn't fuck over our players chances to win games by creating a shitty atmosphere. It won't change Roman's mind either because the guy thinks he's doing the right thing in order to make Chelsea successful. He's not an idiot. He knows how Chelsea fans feel about this guy but in his opinion it was the right move. Rafa Benitez is Chelsea manager for six months. There ain't a banner in the world that will change that, unless it's one written by Pep Guardiola that says 'I fancy managing a football team again'.
  17. Yes, and I'm praying that Zola is fit for the final against Stuttgart. Oh, wrong CWC....
  18. And what will that achieve? It'll create a shit atmosphere for our players, some of whom are young and need our support. it would be great for Man City. It won't change Roman's mind, it won't change the fact that Benitez is our manager and it won't change the fact that he's gone in the Summer. Look, I get that we're angry but that isn't going to change if we create a shitty atmosphere for OUR players. On Monday morning Benitez will still be manager. Personally I'd rather that rather shitty reality was accompanied by three points.
  19. I posted in the other thread but there are three things about him that I think are pertinent. 1. He played at Chelsea. He's familiar with the club, a few players and a few staff. That helps Benitez. 2. He played under Benitez. 3. He also played with a certain out of work manager at Barcelona in the late-90s. Might sound simplistic but I'm not sure our board are capable of much more.
  20. This is essentially my take on it. Basically we have to respect the 'office', not the person occupying it. If the person in the office is doing a decent job then the club benefits and I see no reason to want us to do badly. It's not going to turn the clock back and undo what's happened. Some people need to accept one thing. RAFA BENITEZ IS THE INTERIM CHELSEA COACH. Now we could shout and scream and burn effigies and it might get rid of him, but he will still have been our coach. It'll be in the records, on Wikipedia and in pub quizzes for eternity. So now we can only affect how we react to that. Booing him won't help the team. I don't want young players like Oscar and Hazard to be in that type of atmosphere. It's unfair on them and it won't make them play better. That doesn't mean we all of a sudden love Rafa or even like him. Robbie will get a hell of a lot of love from the fans and he deserves it because by every measure he's a Chelsea legend and he'll be welcomed back for decades to come when this is all just a bad memory.
  21. It all comes down to Roman's mentality. He never wanted Robbie but he really didn't have much choice after he won big ears. So it really didn't take much for him to pull the trigger. With Benitez it's different. He's only a short-term appointment. What I think we all have to understand is that Roman has a plan and it never involved Di Matteo. Ultimately, he's the guy who makes the decisions and to be quite honest, his decisions over the last decade (almost) have given me some of the greatest moments of my life. That isn't to say we should follow him blindly, but there is a certain logic to his decisions.
  22. I agree with the Azpi point. He's looked good in his few starts and I'd like to see us go with Cahill and Bane in the middle. But I think Romeu is never going to be Alonso. If anything he could become the Lucas of our team - a midfield destroyer who can find a pass to one of the creative guys, and occasionally chip in with an assist or a goal. Having said that, he's a Barcelona grad so we all know who the best guy to help him kick on is. No. He could win the League, Champions League (unlikely), FA Cup and CWC and all that will change is what he can stick on his CV when he leaves at the end of the season. My only expectations are for him to not F*** up in any major way and get us to third in the table. Then next season we start anew with a few more players out the door (Malouda, Ferreira etc.) and a host of youngsters with a season of experience under their belt ready to build something special at this club. This is a pretty rotten day for Chelsea, but we are still Chelsea and the future is unbelievably promising.
