Here are my two cents on the whole David Luiz discussion. We all know he's brilliant with the ball in his feet, so I'm going to concentrate on his actual defending. The only thing that kan keep David Luiz from reaching greatness is his brain. Sounds funny, but I honestly believe that if he can improve his decision-making, he has the potential to become one of the best defenders in the world. The fundamentals are there - he has good pace and is nearly unbeatable one against one. People didn't focus as much on his mistakes last season. I guess the "high block" has just made the errors more noticable. He was excellent against Valencia when the whole team was defending well. Hopefully, his positional skills and tactical understanding will improve with time. When that happens, we will have a world class defender who is also able to bring the ball forward and can step into midfield when neccessary, like Pique does for Barcelona. Until then, he is a ticking time bomb.
