The Sun have lifted and edited the quotes from an interview on a French website Le10Sport.com.

I don't know. He is adored by Liverpool fans because he was such a great player and because of what happened after Hillsborough, but his rumoured dodgy connections (re the Paul Stretford and Rooney affair in 2004) and the way he hung around at Liverpool like a vulture during the Benitez and Hodgson eras and managed to maintain a friendship with Christian Purslow while getting no flack for his association with this hated figure ... something about the man just doesn't ring true. Yet there's no doubt he's loving being the manager of Liverpool again and with the pressure off (now there are no expectations on them to win the title or the champion's league) and the help of Steve Clarke he seems to be doing a good job.

You must be drunk to be praising Liverpool and the sinister Kenny Dalglish ... and do any English players give a damn about playing for the national team anyway?

LFC as a club claim they're over him but don't seem able to leave the subject alone until they've completely destroyed his reputation as a decent man and good professional. As soon as the negative media attention dies down they set out to revive it ... often using one of their chorus of tame 'legends' as a mouth piece.
