Chelsea and Manchester United are set to battle it out for the signature of Brazilian wonder kid Alex Teixeira Santos.

The 19-year-old midfielder is earning rave reviews playing for Vasco daGama and he could even make the Brazil squad for next summer's WorldCup finals in South Africa.

Vascorevealed last summer that they had no intention of cashing in on theyoungster but they are now said to be struggling financially and mayhave to listen to offers.

Both Chelsea and United have sentscouts to watch the player in action and would have to cough up in theregion of £8million if they were to pursue a deal.

United couldhave a clear run at the youngster if Chelsea fail with their appeal tohave their transfer ban lifted, although other clubs will no doubt beinterest if Vasco start a bidding war.

I have watched this boy play against hollands youth side a few years ago he was 17. He was playing on the left wing and he was a bag of tricks. I think he is someone we can bring in like we did with mikel at a young age, and use his raw ability in his first season then mould him into the player we need in our system.

Too many such youngsters get linked with us nowadays.. More often than not the clubs just mention our name to garner attention and a fatter cheque..
