Rmpr 8,977
THANK YOU KERRY, IT MEANS A LOT!It happened in Santa Maria, RS. From what I know, no one in TC lives close to where this tradedy took place. I think we are "all safe"...I wonder how their families are, but worse than that, how the survivors are. It wasnt a routine night at the Kiss Club, all the people in there were undergraduate students having a welcome party (our school starts in Feb). Imagine experiencing your son geting into University but dying in his first party or imagine you seeing all your friends dying in one single event. This is a really sad day with multiple silly mistakes that added up to make it even worse!I just really hope they can find peace somewhere. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------OMG!!!!! http://g1.globo.com/...-bombeiros.html 231 people died in a nightclub yesterday in the Kiss Club (very famous nightclub) in Santa Maria, RS, Brazil. There was a fire and people died in all sorts of ways (smoke, ran over, etc). At first, they thought it was a fight, so they closed the door because they did not want people leaving without paying. When they realised it was a big fire it was too late, too many drunk people trying to get out as fast as possible through only one single door.... I AM SHOCKED! Some pictures...http://g1.globo.com/...rs.html#F693432 / http://www.boatekiss.com.br
Ankit 3,176
I saw it in the news here. Jeez, who would be daft enough to blow crackers inside the closed room?? RIP to all those who unfortunately were caught in this. Thoughts with their families, what an idiotic way of loosing your dear ones.

I immediately thought of you and dionsa, but I know we have other members from Brazil. ((HUGS))So scary and devastating for the families for the university. It broke my heart hearing it. Being a parent and a teacher things like this hit very close to home for me. I still keep in touch with many former students who are at university and I worry about them constantly, but I love knowing how they are doing. I am such a big mom! LOL The worst part comes now, people trying to escape the blame and apointing everyone else guilty. Owners saying it was the band, band saying it was the public, public saying it was the authorities (because they allowed an inapropriate place to be aproved), etc... One professor had a class of 55 people and 31 of them died in the accident. He was barely able to complete the interview. I did not know you were a teacher! Cool, what do you teach? Cool, what do you teach? The finger pointing won't help anyone in the end and the truth be told all three will hold some of the blame.Oh that poor professor!!!Right now a am a substitute so I teach what ever they need me to when someone is out for a day. In the US, I taught Chemistry, Honors Chemistry, and AP Chemistry. I could teach full time here but I wanted to take some time when we moved to learn the language and help my kids adjust. Fortunately no one I know was involved. I've lived for a few years in a city close to where it happened, but none of my friends were at the night club. Today/yesterday (monday), me and my friends spent almost all night long debating what happened there. What's worse is that those ppl were universitary students just as we are, so we can really relate and wow, I'd be devastated had it happened here in my city, I'd probably have lost many friends and acquaintances. Ramzi 233
Sorry, I feel dumb, what is AP Chemestry?Advanced Placement, it's a High School course; basically an honors class but (In America) AP classes have an AP exam for that course, it is scored from 1-5. Every university has it own requirements for the test but if you score high enough you will get credit hours for Uni from your High School class. I got A's in AP Econ, AP Gov't, and AP US History but I scored 1-2's on the AP tests.
BluesChick 1,260
And AP Chem is a pain to get the right credit for because the kids that take will major in a field that needs it but they won't get credit for the Chem course they need typically… it will only count for the low level "kitchen" chemistry that non-majors take and the lab requirements are crazy! When I go back to the US I will not teach it!@dionsa glad you are okay!! take care
