Chelsea Sack Andre Villas-Boas
Laylabelle replied to Fulham Broadway's topic in Matthew Harding Stand
Chelsea should not have sacked Andre Villas-Boas, says BBC pundit Robbie Savage, who believes the players and board are to blame for their malaise. Chelsea's decision came on the back of a run of just three Premier League wins in their last 12 games. The 34-year-old only took over as manager in June 2011 after Carlo Ancelotti was sacked in May. "I just feel sorry for Villas-Boas. The players and board should be culpable," BBC pundit Savage told Radio 5 live. "Villas-Boas should still be in charge. [Ex-Liverpool manager] Rafa Benitez looks an interesting prospect and he might get the best out of Fernando Torres. I don't think Villas-Boas has helped himself in recent times with some of the things he has been saying, but in his defence, if his brief was to build for the future and move on the old guard, that can't be done in eight months. Abramovich hasn't yet worked out how to build a successful football club, if you have unlimited wealth, you expect immediate dividends. "I'd go for someone like David Moyes, he has over-achieved at Everton and brought a bit of stability to the club." Villas-Boas' tenure was marked by a reported falling out with senior stars such as Frank Lampard. Former England manager Graham Taylor believed the dressing room had undermined the Portuguese's attempts to lead the club. Speaking to BBC Radio 5 live, Taylor said: "As a football manager, you have to be held responsible for results, as a player, you have to be held responsible for performances. "Looking at Chelsea, you have to say the players have won off the pitch. I don't think the players have had the commitment you would expect from any professional sportsmen, and that's difficult for the manager. "At the end of the day the objective is to win matches, but Villas-Boas has not been helped by his players." While Villas-Boas had been on Chelsea's coaching staff during Jose Mourinho's tenure, he came on the club's radar as a successor to Ancelotti after he won the Portuguese League and Cup double, plus the Europa League, last season with Porto. Former Chelsea player and assistant first team coach Ray Wilkins believed despite this success, the Premier League's increased competitiveness had come as a shock to Villas-Boas. "It's been extremely difficult for him, he's been hanging in there," he told Sky Sports News. "Our football is extremely different to Portugal. No disrespect to Porto, but it can be a breeze winning titles with them. It's not as hard. "The Premier League is an extremely hard place to be." Villas-Boas' exit means Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich is now searching for his eighth manager in nine years at the helm. One of these former bosses, Avram Grant , led Chelsea to the Champions League final in 2008 when he replaced Jose Mourinho on a temporary basis. Speaking to BBC Radio 5 live, the current Partizan Belgrade manager believed Villas-Boas had fallen victim to the Russian billionaire's desire. He said: "His main ambition was to be the champion of Europe. It's not good enough for a team like Chelsea that they [were] only one time in the Champions League [final]. "He gave you all of the tools you needed to succeed and said do your job. He loves football very, very much and has spent a lot of money to achieve the best. "[Chelsea has] Unbelievable facilities; the best in the world or one of." Newcastle boss Alan Pardew said that he felt sorry for Villas-Boas, who had not had his task made easier by the attitude of some of his senior players. "I have a lot of sympathy for him because that is a really, really talented coach we have lost in this country," said the Magpies boss. "I know he is from Portugal, but he has had to take on a club there with a lot of senior pros and in the background, probably had a very, very difficult job. "When you are in a transition year like that - and I have been in it because I was at West Ham when I inherited a lot of senior pros who had just been relegated, and it was very, very difficult. "They made it difficult for me, and one or two of them have apologised since, and so they should." http://www.bbc.co.uk...otball/17250666 -

He could've played a Scholes like role and did for a few games...spoke out and lo and behold there he was back in the team..playing shite! Wouldnt been as bad if he played well/made an effort but didnt happen -

All depends on how big his ego is wherever he brings Jose back....and on what terms.I cant see Jose coming back and being the same situation as before,Roman making deicson on transfer seeing as thats what led to his exit in the end... I respect Lampard as a legend. But his performances have pissed me off.The fact it seemed he was able to start every game after his moan about being left out and yet didnt exactly perfom to deserve a guranteed start. Then again that could be sent for most of the old players... -

With a team ofn Defintly!! With a group of players who give a crap and are willing to make the effort he'll do well I reckon! Defintly knock us out thats bound to happen at some point.Probably in a final to rub it in a big 'hahha' -

Pretty much spot on.Nothing is good enough.Seems to expect us to do the quad every season... Grant sacking right decison mind cause I think another season with him and we'd been screwed with Clarke leaving but even so... Its crazy siutation to be in! You win a trophy...bubi! And Wilkins sacking.Still kinda sad how he refers 'we didnt do this...'us etc' he was sacked randomly for no reason other then some given bullshit off 'we need to go forward' or something daft.Which we havent! -
They actually do.Even other fans as well know the players are the problem as well....
-
Exactly! And freedom in the transfer window to make signings who they need and get rid of who they need....but thats never gana happen. And considering when Jose demanded players in January that time it seemed he'd be shown the door because of it...never gana happen.

We're pretty much become a laugh espically to other fans. We're not seen as a treat as more and even they seem to understand the problem is the players not the manager and seem happy that the problems will still be there....... Why cant the pissing board see it!!!! -

come back Ray!!!!! -
Exactly!!! They come in with little time usually. And obviously the players put on a performance, seems like everything fine and then become unstuck. Then have people moaning they didnt sign many players/get rid.Because half the time they dont realise how bad things will be!!! Unless they decide within the few weeks who will come in and then least they can watch the team from somewhere. If they start looking in summer then thats pointless and daft. But with the board no surprising And why would big name wants to join a club where in the space of a season they could end up playing under 2 different managers
-
Thats the thing of late he has done little to deserve a starting place. And it seems the only reason he has one is because the hissy fit he threw when he was benched...which was the right decsion!!! If he put the performance in fair enough but he hasnt, just strolled around the same as most of the team really
-
Yeah probably, they do as well tend to perform under a new manager/after a change for a while. Then the usual 'mehness' comes back in

For 50m though? That hasnt helped things signing mega pricey players because no doubt then the Manager feels they have to start every game to make up for it.Mean look at Sheva.Dont think Jose wanted him seemed to be after Torres, got him for whatever reason...played him..stopped playing him and then fell out with Roman -
Be hard for transition to happen because we're back in the same situation.manager comes in late, little time to asses the team/makes impact signings.Thinks everything be okay and wam soon realises everything isnt and the team can be kinda shite

Dreading end of the season when we go on the search and waking up with the horrible news Rafa's been appointed... And once again half the summer be spent finding a manager while other teams search for players.Hopfully they'll make a smart move and start looking now! And not at Rafa either...or Capello... -
He also won the FA Cup on sodding pens as well and we're shite at pens screwed at winning anything with him !Rest of the time they were pretty shite espically in the league....his subs were a laugh but wont be if he manages us!

The Wolves fan on fanzone sounds exactly like us...random sacking at a daft time..are the players playing for the shirt or for the dosh etc
