A number of smaller pieces of news surrounding the Academy and Reserves have been going around the last few days, most not reaching the masses at large, so by way of an attempt, a short round-up of what’s been going on with a few players. Firstly, and most importantly, Gael Kakuta signed professional terms with Chelsea last week, having turned 17 in late June. It’s a small and fairly inevitable event given the outstanding season he had last year (players can only sign professional papers when they turn 17) but it’s another indication of the esteem in which he is held by everyone at Chelsea, and he should feature heavily in Reserve pre-season, which begins against Aldershot Town on Saturday at the Recreation Ground, with a 3pm kickoff. Meanwhile, Morten Nielsen, who turns 19 midway through the coming season, is on the lookout for a loan move in his third year at Chelsea, the time players tend to be considered for it. His father, former Danish international and current Chelsea scout Benny Nielsen, spoke to Tipsbladet in Denmark: “Morten would like to stay abroad and in English football, because he has tried playing at a high level with big crowds, where he actually got a lot better, but we don’t want to completely reject Denmark, because things can move quickly in this world.” Morten isn’t the only player to be rumoured to be heading out on loan. Scott Sinclair has been linked with another Championship team in Swansea City, who want him to replace Liverpool’s Paul Anderson, who will go on loan to fellow promoted team Nottingham Forest after spending a successful season at the Liberty Stadium last year. Meanwhile, after Jack Cork’s sensational season at Scunthorpe, the Iron are after another Chelsea midfielder as they attempt to bounce straight back from relegation to League One. Boss Nigel Adkins is reported to be interested in the services of Michael Woods, another player who will be on the lookout for the right loan. Local media suggest a deal will be done after Chelsea return from the Champions Youth Cup, but since the tournament is most likely off, a deal could be sorted sooner. Finally, teenage Italian striker Umberto Varriale has rejected the chance to join Chelsea and will stay at Napoli. The prolific youngster has been included in the Partenopei’s Intertoto Cup squad and doesn’t want to leave his family.

Tigers yet to bid for Bertrand Hull City boss Phil Brown has played down speculation that has suggested he is weighing up a bid for Chelsea's Ryan Bertrand. Bertrand: Impressed at Norwich The 18-year-old left-back has been linked with the Premier League new boys following impressive loan spells at Oldham and Norwich last season. A £2million offer has been mooted but while Brown admits he has had the player watched, he is quick to reiterate that no bid is pending. Brown concedes he must first weigh up whether the player would be able to make the step-up to Premier League level, having only previously accrued experience in League One and the Championship. "We've looked at Bertrand on a number of occasions, but we're in the decision making progress of asking 'Can he step up to the Premier League?' as opposed to the Championship last year," Brown told the Hull Daily Mail. "There's been no approach from us at this stage."

Chelsea rule out PSV return for Rajkovic tribalfootball.com - July 01, 2008 Chelsea have ruled out extending the loan of Slobodan Rajkovic at PSV Eindhoven. De Telegraaf says Chelsea management were unhappy with lack of action Rajkovic saw last season and instead will seek to 'park' the defender at another club for next term.

It's Sunday, traditionally the best day of the week for transfer rumour mongering and this week is no exception. This time it's a Premier League full back from Chelsea! Ashley... no... no, it's not... Good morning fellow City fans! Here at the Towers we're leisurely perusing the Sunday's over our eggs and bacon, but even we, nearly choked on our cornflakes at this latest transfer rumour: CITY IN FOR Chelsea STAR! Well, not exactly 'star' more 'starlet' would be appropriate. Or being brutally honest, 'that young kid who will never get to wear a Blues shirt in anger' is probably more accurate. Anyway, for a cool £2m we can buy left back Ryan Bertrand from Chelsea, ending the youngster's purgatory at Stamford Bridge and offering him a first team lifeline at Hull City in the Premier League. Or perhaps not. Bertand is just 18 years of age and enjoyed - if that's the right word - spells at Oldham Atheltic and Norwich City, with the latter reportedly keen to secure the teenager's signature this summer. As well as us, allegedly.

Hamburg are moving for PSV Eindhoven defender Slobodan Rajkovic. Rajkovic is owned by Chelsea and has spent the last 12 months on-loan at PSV, where he had an inconsistent season.

Juventus have reignited their interest in Branislav Ivanovic following his false start at Premier League giants Chelsea. The 24-year-old snubbed a January switch to Turin after Lokomotiv Moscow accepted a £9m bid from the Stamford Bridge outfit instead. However, the Serbian international has yet to make an appearance for the 2008 Champions League runners-up which has cast doubt over his future. Now whispers in Turin suggest that Juve may make a cheeky attempt to net the versatile stopper by asking the London club for his services on loan. The Bianconeri will be back in the Champions League next season and are known to be looking to significantly strengthen their rearguard. Although they've already netted Olof Mellberg on a free transfer from Aston Villa, boss Claudio Ranieri is desperate for more options. Juventus faced a defensive crisis last term when £7m summer signing Jorge Andrade was ruled out for the season after just four games, while Domenico Criscito didn't offer the security needed. In a stroke of good fortune, Ranieri transformed left-back Giorgio Chiellini into a centre-back and Nicola Legrottaglie finally showed the kind of form which netted him a move to Juventus from Chievo in the first place. Ivanovic would certainly add some steel to the rearguard, but it is unclear at this stage whether Chelsea are willing to release him. Much will depend on the future of Ricardo Carvalho. He's admitted that he'd love to follow Jose Mourinho to Inter, but the appointment of Portugal boss Luiz Felipe Scolari at Chelsea may see him remain.

Chelsea have joined the long queue of clubs lining up to sign rising Parma star Luca Cigarini, according to reports. The Italian Under-21 international is expected to be sold this summer after the club's relegation and the London outfit are in with a shot of landing the 1986-born playmaker. Cigarini, who signed a new five-year contract at the Tardini in 2007, is a product of the club's youth system and has been likened to Italy and Milan midfielder Andrea Pirlo. Chelsea certainly have the financial power to sign the technically gifted youngster, but they are not alone. Juventus, at the request of former Parma boss Claudio Ranieri, are very keen on the starlet, as are Napoli and Genoa – sides who would be able to offer him regular first-team football. Yet a move to La Liga could be on the horizon with Villarreal, who already have Cigarini's former teammate Giuseppe Rossi, and Atletico Madrid showing an interest in recent weeks.

Ryan joined Chelsea in the summer of 2005 for an initial fee of £125,000, with future clauses based upon personal and club success to be paid when met. Gillingham Chairman Paul Scally was not happy at the decision set via tribunal. After making his way through the Under-18 team as one of the most impressive players of the 2005-06 season, Ryan made his first foray into professional football as a 17 year-old, heading to Bournemouth on loan in League Two along side team-mate Jack Cork. The spell would be brief, but he would return to the Fitness First Stadium later in the season after recovering from a ruptured spleen. More loan spells followed, at Oldham Athletic in League One for the first half of the 2007-08 season, before moving up another division and joining Norwich City in The Championship for the remainder of the campaign. He impressed so much at Carrow Road that he would return for the entire duration of the 2008-09 season, but he was unable to help the Canaries avoid relegation. His reputation wasn't tarnished though, and the 2009-10 season saw a return to the Championship with Reading, who were managed at the time by Brendan Rodgers. Rodgers, of course, had coached Ryan at both academy and reserve team levels. He became a mainstay in the Royals' team despite their poor season. On 5 August 2010 Ryan's 21st birthday he was sent on the sixth loan move of his precocious career, joining Nottingham Forest until January 3rd 2011. He remained a regular in their promotion chasing side until injury ended his spell at the City Ground in December 2010. Ryan returned to Chelsea in January 2011 to become a part of the first team squad, and made his first team debut as a second half replacement for Ashley Cole against Birmingham City on 20 April. Bertrand impressed, providing the cross for Chelsea's third goal in a 3-1 win. At the start of the 2011-12 season, with Yuri Zhirkov having left in the summer and Patrick van Aanholt loaned to Wigan Athletic for the season, Bertrand emerged as back-up to Ashley Cole at left back. He made his second appearance for the first team in a third round League Cup tie against Fulham, playing the full match as the Blues eventually prevailed on a penalty shoot-out after extra time. When Roberto Di Matteo was appointed Interim First Team Coach in March 2012, Ryan became entrusted with more regular first team action, culminating in a surprise start on the left wing in the 2012 UEFA Champions League Final against Bayern Munich. He played 75 minutes and did well, earning himself a winner's medal in Europe's premier club competition in just his sixteenth appearance for Chelsea. Click here to view the record

Palace eyeing Chelsea's Sinclair tribalfootball.com - March 13, 2008 Crystal Palace are planning a move for Chelsea attacker Scott Sinclair. Palace manager Neil Warnock will renew his interest in Chelsea youngster Sinclair if the winger is recalled from his loan spell at Charlton. Warnock missed out on taking Sinclair to Selhurst Park earlier this month after the 18-year-old opted for a loan move to the Valley. But Sinclair has yet to start a game for the Addicks and was not even on the bench at Burnley on Tuesday night, prompting speculation he is poised to return to Stamford Bridge. Warnock told the Croydon Advertiser: "I will certainly be making a phone call about Scott with regards t

Fuming Chelsea recall Sinclair from Charlton tribalfooball.com - March 12, 2008 Chelsea have cancelled Scott Sinclair's loan deal with Charlton Athletic. The Mirror says the Blues hoped the loan would help the development of the promising winger, but he was left on the bench for the first three games and was recalled ahead of last night's match at Burnley.

LOAN MOVES FOR TWO BLUES Two Chelsea youngsters have today gone out on loan for more first team experience. Harry Worley has joined Championship side Leicester City until the end of the season, while James Simmonds moves for four weeks to Ryman League side Dover Athletic. Worley featured on the bench for our Community Shield draw with Manchester United at Wembley back in August, and will be hoping to add to the games he has accumulated during previous loan spells - at Carlisle earlier this season, and Doncaster Rovers last. Simmonds spent a loan spell with Cardiff City last season, and is a Republic of Ireland under 19 international. Both players signed professional forms with us in late 2005.

Like Alex, Alcides is contracted to Chelsea, but has been 'parked' at PSV as he seeks to secure a Dutch passport and also establish himself in the Brazil national team. Alcides will be in action for PSV tomorrow night against Tottenham in the UEFA Cup and he added: "It will be an opportunity for me to show that I can play at a high level in the Premiership."

Chelsea owner Abramovich backing Grant tribalfooball.com - March 03, 2008 Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich remains fully supportive of coach Avram Grant. The Guardian says Grant's job is not in immediate jeopardy. Abramovich has too much invested in the appointment of an under-qualified coach to one of European football's top positions to dispense with him after one Wembley defeat. Sources close to the owner insist he has not moved to change the manager nor sanctioned any approach to the Barcelona coach Frank Rijkaard.

Chelsea coach Steve Clarke is being linked with Brian Laws' job at Sheffield Wednesday. The People says Clarke and former England skipper Alan Shearer are the major targets of the takeover group and their advisers, who are close to buying the Owls. Shearer will be sounded out if Lancashire-based businessman Geoff Sheard and his moneymen win control in the next few days. He would form a dream team with old pal Mike Newell. However, insiders believe that Shearer is far from convinced unless there is real money to spend. That leaves the way open for Clarke, who could be tempted.

The day after we were crying outfor a bit of pace and natural skill in a Wembley final, salt appears tobe ready to be rubbed into our wounds. Scott Sinclair, ourexciting teenage winger, is about to be off-loaded on loan to CharltonAthletic. It appears that Alan Pardew has beaten off late interest fromStoke City and Burnley to take Scott on loan. Also, in a greatpiece of managerial acumen, Pardew has worked out that if he takesSinclair on loan now, the winger, if he stays the maximum 93 days allowed, will be eligible for the Championship play-offs. Itis though that those at Chelsea who reach a decision on these mattersgave the green light to loan Scott out over the weekend. Good luck Scotty from all at Vital Chelsea!

Charlton set to win battle for Chelsea's Sinclair tribalfooball.com - February 25, 2008 Charlton Athletic boss Alan Pardew hopes to sign Chelsea striker Scott Sinclair on-loan today. Sinclair has been wanted by Charlton for weeks, even though Pardew already has three wingers on the left side, and his advisers are keen for him to stay in London, says the Mirror. Table-topping Stoke have also been in for Sinclair but could not guarantee him regular football, while Burnley chief Owen Coyle inquired about the teenager, who he believes would be just what the Clarets need to reach the Premier League. Chelsea will officially announce Sinclair's destination today after his fate was discussed over the weekend, but insiders say Charlton have won the vote.
