Kalou hails the 'Hiddink Effect'

Chelsea winger Salomon Kalou would welcome manager Guus Hiddink staying on. Hiddink has won 11 of the 16 games since taking control in February but will return to his job as Russia coach full-time when the season ends. “He has brought a lot of discipline into the side,” he said. “We are enjoying the moment with him and if he decided to stay it would be great.”

Since the dutch manager has joined Chelsea, he has turned our fortunes upside down, and set us on the path towards a very possible double. He has no doubt had great effect on the team, and i believe, hes the only manager, after Jose, that the players, as well as the fans love.

“We have completely changed. There is more discipline and he has brought the team together,” Kalou told skysports.com. “Everyone gives him respect and he has helped to lift the spirits. We all know what it means to play for Chelsea and we needed more discipline and team spirit. That is what he has brought. He is also very good tactically and he has brought a lot of positives to the team. We are now getting good results but we have to keep working hard to end the season in style.”

Kalou reckons that the fact that Hiddink has been able to wake up the hidden talent inside the world class players at Chelsea, has been the reason the team is now thriving, and back to looking like one of the best teams in the World. Its no secret, that another factor, has been our discipline as of late, we’ve been able to stay calm, not panic, and get results. We’ve had players hit form at the right time, Lampard is at the top of his game, Anelka is back to his best, and Drogba, well enough said, he’s been world-class since Hiddink came.

“I think the difference with certain players is down to confidence. Didier was struggling a bit before, but now he is full of confidence,” he added. “He is playing more, he has more opportunities to shoot than he did have before. The confidence is back, thanks to the manager, and he can now deliver good performances on the pitch.”

The 23-year-old has often been deployed in a wide role since arriving at Stamford Bridge in 2006, but admits it is his ambition to become a fearsome central striker. “That is my best position, that was where I was playing before in Holland at Feyenoord, and that is where I proved myself,” he said. “But at a big club like Chelsea, who have a lot of top strikers, you have to wait for your moment. At the moment Didier is our top striker and I have to wait for my time. I would love to get back to my best position in the future.”

Kalou remains a great player in the making, hopefully, we can keep him at the club and see how he prospers.
