Ivan Ortega - Sports therapist

The former Liverpool striker Fernando Torres, meanwhile, wants the club's sports therapist, Ivan Ortega, to join him at Chelsea. Ortega moved to Liverpool from Celta Vigo in 2009 and worked closely with Torres during the Spaniard's final injury-plagued seasons at Anfield. It is understood the striker has asked Chelsea to offer a position to Ortega as he looks to rediscover the form and fitness that has eluded him since his £50m transfer to Stamford Bridge in January.

From his profile on Liverpool's official site:

Ivan joined the medical team at Melwood as a sports therapist ahead of the 2009-10 season.

The Spaniard graduated in physiotherapy from Leon University back home. He also has a post-graduate qualification in articular manipulative physiotherapy from the University of Coruna and a Masters in sports physiotherapy from the Escuela Gimbernat School in Barcelona.

After starting out in private healthcare in Spain following university, Ivan began working for Celta de Vigo FC in 2006 as a youth team physio. He was quickly promoted to be responsible for all the physiotherapy at Celta's youth academy, including the reserve team, before again moving up to work with their first team in the 2006-07 season.

Interesting. Does this mean Torres doesn't have much faith in our existing medical staff? Or is it just that he'd prefer to work with someone who already knows him and his body well? I remember we hired Cristophe Lollichon (our GK coach) on Cech's request. There could be some truth about this as well.

It would make sense, and if it does, is some way, rekindle Nando's form then i am all for it. To be honest, since the whole Lampard fiasco, i think the medical team needs a little shake up.

It's a big lol, not only we've paid £50m to Liverpool and given him a £180k-a-week wage, but now we 'have' to hire his own therapist or whatsoever. Lol.

Word.

What a stupid demand from Torres. Live with the current management, and earn your pay..

It comes to something when a player needs his own physios...

The startling reality is that we've signed Torres three seasons too late, in my opinion. His peak physical condition is behind him.
