QPR defender Tal Ben Haim has joined Major League Soccer team Toronto FC on loan until the end of June.

The Israel international, 31, was signed by Rangers boss Harry Redknapp in the January transfer window, and made just six appearances for the club.

"He's exactly the sort of veteran defender we need," said Toronto FC president Kevin Payne.

The Canadian club are managed by former QPR defender Ryan Nelsen, who played his last game for the Hoops in January.

Payne described Ben Haim, who has also played for Bolton, Chelsea, Manchester City, Portsmouth, Sunderland and West Ham, as "one of the top defenders in the Premier League for nearly a decade".

He added: "He captains his national team and Ryan thinks the world of him."

New Zealander Nelsen also signed QPR winger Hogan Ephraim on loan in February, but a deal to sign ex-Bolton striker Kevin Davies fell through in April.

QPR were relegated from the Premier League along with Readingon 28 April.

Graeme Bailey @GraemeBailey

Sensational stuff from @GuillemBalague reporting that deal for Manuel Pellegrini to become Manchester City manager has been concluded.

Report says Txiki Begiristain has reached agreement and Pellegrini will arrive this summer, with star player Isco. http://futbol.as.com/futbol/2013/05/10/mas_futbol/1368219513_326123.html

If true, then it is a damn shame. I was looking forward to Jose vs Fergie vs Mancini Now it will be Jose vs Moyes vs Pellegrini. What a dud

I can't believe Mancini has played his second choice goalkeeper in every round of the F.A Cup until the final and now he mugs him off and selects Hart. That's bang out of order in my book.

yeah and pantilimon said a few days ago that mancini promised him he will play in the final. then changes his mind. wanker

having said that, i hope wigan win the cup! can't stand city
