Oliver Glasner: I feel completely abandoned by Crystal Palace

Sunderland 2 Crystal Palace 1: Departing manager criticises board and says sales of Marc Guéhi and Eberechi Eze meant his ‘heart gets torn out twice in a season’

Oliver Glasner launched a scathing attack on the Crystal Palace board after defeat away to Sunderland, insisting he and his players have been abandoned.

Glasner went into what was almost a ten-minute diatribe following the 2-1 loss, his anger pointed at those in charge of the club, their inertia in the transfer market and the way he only found out at 10am on Friday that Marc Guéhi was about to be sold to Manchester City.

The Austrian, whose planned departure from Palace at the end of the season was also announced on what was a black Friday for Palace, admitted he did not know if his attack on those above him at the club would have ramifications for himself.

“I don’t know. It’s their club,” he said. “I don’t need any support. Crystal Palace is fine, to end the season like this, with Oliver Glasner, with another manager, I don’t know, I don’t care, but, and they’re fine with this, OK they can do it.

“We feel that we are being abandoned, no support. We’re playing with 12, 13 players for weeks now and the bench is just kids, they’ve never played in a stadium, in an atmosphere like this and then I see the players, everybody is disappointed.

“(If) we can continue doing like this, you know, you will get the bill. You will get the bill. Not Oliver Glasner will get the bill. No, Crystal Palace will get it. If you’re fine with it, continue.

“Why I’m saying this is not to protect myself, I don’t care about me, but they need to be protected because they’re leaving their heart and we made no substitution because it would have been unfair and that’s why we are where we are.

“We have a few players who played their 35th game now, so you would need support, this group of players would need support and that’s how it feels today.”

Glasner condemned the way he found out that a deal to sell Guéhi had been done.

“It’s the worst thing you can have,” he said. “The first training week since September, preparing and again, with our players from the academy, we were 16 players yesterday in training, and then yesterday at 10.30 I get told everything.

“The set plays were ready for Marc Guéhi. We trained set pieces during the week with Marc Guéhi, so I think the negotiations didn’t start at 10!

“If your heart gets torn out twice in a season, one day before a game, once with [Eberechi] Eze in summer (who was sold to Arsenal), with Guéhi now, it’s tough to survive and that’s how it feels right now.

Palace, now without a win in ten games, went ahead at the Stadium of Light after 30 minutes through Yeremy Pino. Enzo Le Fée equalised and Brian Brobbey scored the winning goal in the 71st minute.

“I think the players did well for 50-60 minutes,” Glasner added. “They played well, it was quite even. Then we were 15-20 minutes under pressure, they took the lead and then we tried everything to get back into the game, but we couldn’t support them from the bench and that’s how it feels now.

On his own future, when asked if he can stay at the club when he is so unhappy, Glasner added: “Yes, because the players deserve it. The players and the fans deserve it 100 per cent, so for me, it’s an honour to fight with these players to get the results back again.

“It’s not that we are far away from getting a point or winning, but they deserve Oliver Glasner to be their leader and this is for me and also to protect them.”

Good time to face Palace next week.

Now it's rumoured CP will sack Glasner's ass after these comments, Mateta wants to leave too.

What a shitshow at Palace.. After winning the FA-cup and the CS, they are completely falling apart.
