I mean he’s not done anything particularly interesting in his career. Its not always a fair barometer of how good a manager he is but again underwhelming spells at Porto, bit better at Braga, good spell at Shakhtar then a meh spell at Roma. It looks very middle of the road.

Its more the circus of how they’ve gone from looking at 2/3 top class options to scraping the barrel for someone, who’s just been replaced by the man they sacked also 😂

After failing to land Conte, Spuds should have taken a punt on Potter, a young, hungry manager with potential who might turn out to be as good as Poch was for them.

Fonseca is about as uninspiring as they get, so sometimes I have to feel a little bit sorry for those long suffering fans who never get to see their team even win an egg cup.🤣

TBF, Fonseca had a good reputation before he went to Roma. Not sure his reputation has really gone south after the stint at Roma but on paper at least, think he fits what Levy wants at Spurs. And given what Spurs can and can't afford financially, they were never going to attract a top class manager and they have always been a club who build up good teams but never have enough about them to go on and win titles.

One change that will result from the thicker lines is that broadcasters and TV viewers will no longer see the process of drawing the offside line, just the final result.

wtf

How will this work? When both lines get thicker,it does not make a difference. if both lines or rather stripes now are still the same width, the edges of the lines will still underlap if there is an offside. The only sensible thing would be to make only the blue onside line that is drawn along the defender thicker so it overlaps the red offside line.

What did you expect my friend, its all bent, as if this new way would somehow eliminate manipulation. If they were legit and not bent then we would see and hear how they came to whatever outcome, they would be mic'ed up, and the refs allowed to be questioned and interviewed........fucking corrupt bastards. Just wait for next season if they can see we are going for the title, you'll see.

What happened to giving the benefit of the doubt to the attacking team on a close offside call!?

Football Nerd: Euros Edition

Manchester City attacker still has what it takes to rattle opposition defenders

Percy.png

By John Percy

He is the most capped player in England's squad, and remains highly admired by Gareth Southgate, so why is there a sense that Raheem Sterling is yesterday's man?

Sterling is still only 26, behind only Harry Kane with the number of goals for his country, yet the Manchester City forward will head into Euro 2020 with doubts over whether he should be included against Croatia on Sunday.

While much of the focus has been on the likes of Mason Mount, Phil Foden and Jack Grealish, Sterling has rather slipped out of the national conscience after a difficult season at club level.

There was the heavy touch in the Champions League final against Chelsea, surrendering possession to Reece James, while there is uncertainty over his future under Pep Guardiola.

Sterling deserves more respect. His control and possession of the ball may not be as polished as the likes of Mount or Grealish, and his game remains a little chaotic at times, but he is still a proven operator at international level.

Southgate has few players with the direct approach of Sterling, the willingness to drive forward and break defensive lines. His finishing has never been outstanding, but his style of play still puts defenders on the back-foot.

He is also versatile, capable of playing on either the left or right, and possesses the tournament experience that many of the squad do not have.

On Sunday, there is a huge opportunity for Sterling to remind the nation of his talent, and why Southgate remains such a supporter.

With so many Premier League teams looking for top-level managers, why did the title-winning Mancini not come into the reckoning? After Italy's comprehensive victory over Turkey in the opening match of the tournament, Jeremy Wilson says there's far more to Mancini than his reputation as a prima donna.

A game of chicken: Raheem Sterling trains with a rubber chicken as England prepare for their tournament opener against Croatia on Sunday afternoon. Oliver Brown says that, whether the team win the Euros or not, they can at least entertain the nation. Perhaps this is what he meant.

Interesting...

These gongs are thrown around like confettti and become meaningless when given privileged people in sports and entertainment.

I know a young lad who used to do his shift at work and then go straight to the FB warehouse to do his voluntary work for a 3 hours. It's people like him who should be getting some kind of recognition.
