Here is a good opinion I found on the Adam Johnson incident:

Let's be honest his life his all but over now and even if his missus sticks with him it will no doubt follow them around for a long while.. His missus has probably been supportive due to the baby but that's all well and good while protesting his innocence as they may well have been able to rustle up some sort of support from friends and family but having admitted it now that will change all of that and it will not be so easy to come to terms with.. And that's all without the possible jail term he may get on top..

What should he go for prison for? Did he fuck her until she died from anal blood loss? Did he rape her?

Apparently he groomed her. Well, wouldn't he be a pedophile then? And aren't they considered mentally ill? Get him help in such a case and not a cell. The most normal age gap i've seen between 2 people in this generation is like, 17 years old for the girl, 22/23 for the guy. 15 + 27 is mad. No normal sane guy would choose that route over grown women who know what they're doing.

So what you are saying is that the British goverment should cherry pick what mental illnesses they want to support treatment for?
"Hmmm.. bipolar disorder? Sure we can treat that.... Parkinsons? Nah, lets not".

A few professionals class pedophilia as an mental illness, and the goverments have to decide if they want to treat ALL mental illnesses or NONE, in my opinion.

I don't know if Johnson is a pedophile, but if he is, prison might not be the way to "rehabilitate" him.

I have trouble using the word 'paedophile' in these circumstances. She is underage that is true but she is also at an age where she has control over her actions and at least some self-awareness. This is very much a 'two to tango' type situation. He is an idiot for doing it, there is no other word for it. I just question his motivations; did he engage in sexual acts with this girl because he is aroused by the idea of her being underage or did he do it because he simply can and as a footballer gets the women he wants and this is no different?

Now, I'm reluctant to call him a paedophile because when I think of that disgusting word I conjure up images of peoples that are sexually attracted to prepubescent children.

 

I feel like I need to wash my hands just typing that out.

That's the pitfall, isn't it? You can't shake these suspicions but one day there will be a girl that was actually abused and the perpetrator will walk off scott free...or the opposite could happen...
