Both wikipedia and football manager say that it was 5 million + Cole for Gallas, not the other way around. I am confuse.

Nope we paid 5m for him and gave them Gallas

"eventually Cole signed for Chelsea on 31 August for a fee of £5 million, with William Gallas being transferred from Chelsea to Arsenal as part of the same deal."

I stand corrected. Damn you, football manager!

That changes things. FA Cup line up goes out to 115 million. Lineup with Torres to 141 million.

Liverpool have spent:

Reina- 8.6 million (according to transfermarkt)

Johnson- 17.5 million

Skrtel- 6.5 million

Agger- 6 million

Enrique- 7 million

Henderson- 20 million

Spearing- 0

Gerrard- 0

Bellamy- 6 million (paid in 2006)

Downing- 20 million

Suarez- 22.8 million

113 million on that lot, 158 with Carroll and Kuyt included, vs. our FA Cup lineup of 115 million, rising to 140 with Malouda and Meireles included. The only 'big' clubs in England that have spent less than us in a while have been Spurs and Arsenal.

Interesting screen but wages should not be taken out of the equation.

Precisely, both Aguero & Toure earn over £200,000 per week, Nasri's on £175 pw. United have an actual wage cap.. bar Rooney.

F*cking West Ham -_-

I hope Birmingham overcome their deficit tomorrow and annihilate West Ham in the play-off final! They've played wonderful football this season and deserve, especially Houghton, to have their Premier League status restored. I'd hate it for Hammers to come back up.. AGAIN.

Surprising to see we still pay that kind of money.

I would guess there will be a change when the players from Mourinho era leave / retire. They're the ones who are paid most at Chelsea and the I would estimate that the players we've bought in the last couple of years (excluding Torres of course) are all on around 40-70k a week and some probably even less. Of course if they live up to expectations their wages will rise but still be way less than what Terry, Lamps, Cole, Drogba etc. are making at the moment.

To think Salomon Kalou is currently making more money than Juan Mata is beyond ridiculous and just shows how things have changed in recent years. No way we would still give a player like Kalou a contract that good.

Kalou is a strange one. He does have a huge profile in Africa, and was probably better known to most football fans outside Europe than Mata until 2011. I'd imagine much of the discrepancy comes for strictly commercial purposes. Either that or he has one hell of an agent and Mata doesn't.

To get 7th place spending that kind of money is brilliant. Moyes would probably win the League if he had the kind of money Liverpool do. 43.5 million over a 6-7 year period, I'd imagine? Liverpool have spent 5 times that in 3 years.
