To suggest we can make up those 30 points in the space of a season, one that's congested as this and no preseason, is unrealistic. We saw last night the same naivety we saw all last season. It is still there and can't go away over night. You are asking quite a lot if you expect a title challenge. Lampard's task was to comfortably finish in the Top 4. He doesn't do that, we won't challenge next season and I would actually lose my faith in him to carry us forward. You should apply context and understand where I'm coming from. I dont expect us to close the gap on the Liverpool team we faced last season but do I expect us to close the gap on the injured Liverpool side we're facing now? Hell yes. I'm not naive enough to believe we'll get 90+ points but I don't think Liverpool will get those kind of numbers. So based on that I believe we should challenge and close the gap. Much as I hate to say it they're in a similar position we were in in 2005. We can hate them all we want but they're relentless. Hopefully we can keep progressing and be the team that goes on challenge them properly (like United did to us back then). Aye, you can see the mental strength along with the quality they have as a whole. The same mentality you saw in the Chelsea 04-07 team, United 06-09, and City 17-19. They belong with those sides.
